your best bet is to use the search function, becuase this has been debated over and over and over again and there have been a lot of valid points made.
generally the conesnsus is:
for a car with a poweradder, go 3.73's or 3.90's
for a naturally aspirated car, go 4.10's or 4.30's

I debated this same thing for the longest time, and then after finally wising up and taking the advice of all of the smart people, I went with 4:10's. Just do it. You will not be sorry.

I used to like my 3.73s and thought that I made the right decision. Then, I installed my cams and found out that I made a big mistake. Luckily the same guy that installed my 3.73s for $100 will install more gears for $100. I'm deciding between 4.10s and 4.30s.

If you dont get 4.10's your just scared! Its 200 more rpms than 3.73. The only time you should get 3.73's is if your blown.

Remind me why 4.10's are too much for a S/C car?

No first gear?

That's good to know I want to get 410's. But I go on 300 to 600 mile trips sometimes. One of my dumb ass friends told me I would kill my motor. Thats why I call him my dumb ass friend I guess.

I'm go'in with 410's

You run out of gear in a 1/4 mile race. You would have to shift into 5th at the track if you were trapping as high as a s/c car should trap.

Im debating this too, and ive been debating it for a long time. The RPM and gas milease isn't what worries me, what does is the fact that so many claim that even if you feed it a LITTLE bit too much throttle when getting the car rolling or when shifting you get wheelspin (on street tires).... that could get SO annoying on a daily driven car IMO, along with the constantly having to shift. If it weren't for that I would have gotten the 4.10's a looong time ago.

Let me put it this way - I would NEVER buy a used Stang from one of you guys who put 4.10s on- Why ? because you just put 25 % more wear on i the engine for X miles .

Gotta go with you on this one. Its like being in two seperate car clubs, one has 3:73's and the other 4:10's

Since I got my 4.10's done I find myself shifting less just driving normal around town. Most of the time I start out in 2nd gear, and downshifting to accelerate is a thing of the past 80% of the time.
