I've got a friend that drove my car after I installed the 3.73s. He liked the extra power it seemed it give you plus the fun factor now. My car is a manual and his is an auto but he's wanting to put 3.73s in his car. I told him that he probably wouldn't feel as much pick up in an auto that he did in my car. Is this right and which gear should I recommend for him to get? BTW I've tried to get him to put a 2600 stall conv. but says he doesn't want to mess up the tranny. 4.10s with a 2600 stall conv. would be awesome, wouldn't it?

i would go with the 4.10's in a auto with a 3000-3200 stall.. 2600 is to low for the 4.6.. our motors dont make crap for power at 2600..

the way i figure out what converter too get is.. if the car was a stick what is the best launch rpm (figure for good traction) i think 3500 RPM works best for a launch point.. so a 3000-3200 is the best converter too get... th 3000 stall will flash too over 3400 durring launches and thats just perfect for the stock 4.6

if he gets a converter an gears... tell him to install a shift kit ( the shifts will get sloppy with the loose converter.. also he will need a good tranny cooler..

and with that he will be faster than you

He says he's just going to get the gears but no conv. Isn't he just defeating the purpose in trying to make the car faster? I think he has a Diablo to firm up the shifts so he's not getting a shift kit either.

So If I were to get 4.10's running 2,600 rpms on the highway supposedly increases the tranny temperature would I need to buy a tranny cooler while I am at it?? Alll I really would want to buy is the sct tuner, Gears, and gears accessories.

I would definitely get a cooler. They are not very pricey.

you should get a tranny cooler even if you're stock. tell him to get 4.10s and at least a 3000rpm stall TC the Jerry Mod will be better for him IMO. if he doesnt want to risk his tranny, thats the way to go. The Jerry Mod was created my Jerry, the guy who designed the 4r70w for the Mustang.

he can check out the articles about the Jmod at www.tccoa.com

Why would you install a shift light in an auto? Does the stall allow you to change the gears manually just without a clutch? I am in the dark when it comes to T/C and shift kits.
