well i found a smokin deal for a set of 1 3/4" long tubes with a pro chamber an mac dumps for 250.00.... Do you think that may be a little to much for my setup in the sig??? i would really really like to get it...

with a stock engine and 3'' exhaust u will loose hp......unless u have somthing like a stroker kit and a s/c, stick with the stock piping or a 2.5 o/r h-pipe. it might sound gr8 but u will loose low end probly with ur mild mods

2.5" Would Definetly Be Better For Your Combo, But It's A Great Deal So Grab It Before It's Too Late & Save it For When You Start Making More HP. The Power Difference Between the 2.5 and 3" will be fairly minor so you could just throw it on. Your Call.

well.... a 100 or 125 shot is in the works till i can afford to build up a 347 blown bad mother.... Untill then the No2 will have to due... im gonna go listen to the setup on his car since he still has it installed... I forgot to ask the brand name of the headers, but he said that they were the only long tubes u could buy this time last year for an AODE without having to pull the motor... this will go on my 5 spd though... compadibilty shouldnt be an issue should it???

Dude, that's all there is to it. It's just too big for you. It's a deal, so get it, and sell it/trade it to someone who actually needs it. Don't even go through the trouble of putting it on- definately don't spend $100 on a dyno pull (there goes your savings) only to tell you what all the experts have been saying for years about HP requirements and pipe dimensions is in fact true after all.
What you never specified was the size of the rest of the system. Everybody in here seems to be assuming it's a 3" Prochamber and catback, but you never said that- only that the headers are long tubes and 1&3/4"- which is was too big. What about the rest? If everything else is a usable size, it's a smokin deal. You could sell the headers and have a full header back system for peanuts.

Sounds to me like you've already made your mind up, and you're just waiting for us to tell you it's all good. Others nailed it - you'll lose lowend on your set up. So if you don't mind that, get it. If you want to try and re-sell it, get it - but I don't think you'll make a lot of money on that used set up.

As with cams, carbs, throttle bodies and injectors - people frequently oversize exhaust systems. There are many vehicles out there (Nissan Titan, Armada, Dodge Ram hemi, LS1 F-bodies) that are making in the 330-350HP range from the factory with SINGLE 2.75" or 3" systems. I just read a test about a blown LS1 stroker (390+ cubes) that makes right at 500 rwhp, and runs in the 10's with 1 3/4 long tubes, 2.5" head pipes into a single 3" system with a single 3" in/out muffler transversely mounted out back. I don't understand why more people don't run a properly sized single cat-back system. It can be designed to flow just as well, sounds like any other V-8 with an H/X/Chamber set up, and it saves weight - but that's just me. Dual 2.5's are PLENTY for most any 5.0L set up. While the big system probably won't hurt you on peak power, it will definitely cost you bottom end torque - which impacts street drivability and mileage.

So it is a full 3" system? I think you'll do better trading it to someone with the same thing in 2.5" who needs to step up to the next size than trying to spin it. The only thing I think wouldn't hurt you installed is the catback, and that's debatable. You may be able to sell it all and do OK, but for the most part it's only a good deal if it's what you want/need; if he could get more for it, he probably wouldn't be selling it that cheap.

I'd look for a set of 1 5/8" primary long tubes, and the X/Chamber/H setup you want in 2.5". Let him sell what he's got to someone else. I believe the chances are greater you'll either break even or lose money on it than that you'll make a profit. Meanwhile, you have to wait that much longer to get the system on it that you need. Just opinions though - yours is the only one that ultimately matters.

well i purchased it today... heard it on his car... and while it does sound sweet, i dont really need to attract any more attention to my car then what it alreadys gets... red mustang with a screaming exhuast = tickets....a local guy is willing to give me 200 for the headers, while another wants the cat back system for 250.00... i can still use my flowmaster cat back, an just by new 1 5/8" long tubes an 2.5" pro chamber...

edit: headers are now gone for 200.00 plus a new pro m mass air meter... attempting to buy some bbk or mac 1 5/8" long tubes now.... now if i can just get 200.00 for the mufflers an pro chamber...
