dammit!!! i already wrote this out but it *****ING erased it! o.k so i got an hei dizzy from jegs and it did not come with any instructions so i assumed that the red wire was power and the black wire is ground and the brown wire was tach, so i hooked up the red wire to the thich wire coming off the alt just for the time being(temp. 12 volt source)and i hooked up the black wire straight to the neg. battery post, it burnt off the insulation off the black wire and started smoking, so i took it off--so does anybody know the correct hook up and did i fry my new HEI?

well,well,well so i took a break to regather my thoughts, and my thoughts led me to my battery posts... and well it turns out i made a mistake i NEVER thought would happen, yep u guessed it --being the master mechanic i am, i completed a power circuit right through my coil by touching the power terminal instead of the negative 
--i guess i was getting too excited--so next question...does an HEI dizzy have some type of cicuit protection? like a replaceable element or fuse?
