My goal right now is to make 300 rwhp while staying naturally aspirated on 87 unleaded pump gas. I know that this has been covered before on a different thread a while back but a timing adjuster was always thrown into the list of suggested mods and I really don't want to change the timing at all. Right now I'm thinking that my next logical step would be to purchase a set of lumpier cams for the car which happens to be a 2000 GT 5-spd. with the Windsor motor in her and the stock 3.27 rear-end (I want it that way right now with perhaps 3.55's in the future) which is all looking at pushing around 46,xxx miles as of right now. I know that besides cams, my next best bet is purchasing just short of every bolt-on in the book (besides a T/A, CAI, upper intake plenum, or any kind of sport chip out there for that matter). BTW - I don't plan on getting the BBK longtubes I want until whenever my clutch blows, but I am looking at purchasing a MAC Prochamber and a Flowmaster A/T cat-back in the near future. Before I even get excited about this whole idea though, I would like to know if this kind or horsepower is even attainable while staying on the 87 octane. And if it is, has anyone here done it and what are the suggested aftermarket parts to help me achieve my goal of 300 rwhp n/a? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -JJ

gunna be tough without changing timing or a custom chip

if i wanted 300rwhp....
read my sig...
then add a plenum, cam, change the shorties for longtubes, change my H for an X, and maybe i might be close

and thats tuned on 93 with the timing bumped

so your mission is a tough one for sure without a crazy shortblock or some other really expensive thing like a higher compression piston

You might want to ask this over at Modular Depot. There are a few guys that are either approaching or right at the 300-mark. Mustang92, Starkie, AutomaticWeapon, and KenB are the ones that come to mind.

Maybe with stroked 5.4 block. Otherwise it will take some timing or higher compression or both. Both of which require a higher octane. Why are you trying to stay with the lower octane?

I think it may be possible. I just don't understand why you would run 87octane if you are concerned about making power. ken b has like 317rwhp. he may be able to detune for 87 and still have 300hp. He has ported heads, cam, bullit intake, etc. only one way to find out, just do it. I don't think you are going to find anyone who spends that much on an engine that cares about the price of super. so it is all talk unil you try. stage II heads, big cams, intake, full exhaust, tune. That should run you about 5k. I would think that would get you close. from there it would be fine tuning. maybe a set of pullies, or maf, or tb. or you may just end up in the 290's becaue you need more timing to make the power.

Why use low octane gas the high octane doesnt cost that much more. If you cant afford the gas should you be spending money on mods?

It seems like you want 300RWHP to magically appear or something.

Longtubes and an offroad pipe are a MUST. Underdrive pulleys are also a must. Bullitt intake, or the upcoming Fox Lake intake would definately help.

Sorry to tell you, but you're going to have to mod more than just a few things to hit 300.

i think its possible, but its gonna take more that just bolt ons, cams would really help you out, but i dont understand..why not a higher octane, timing and tune? you'll benefit the greatest then..

You'll never be able to do it on 87 and run without detonation. Nice try, but won't happen.

Thanks everybody for all of your collective input!
I really just wanted to know right off the bat, if my idea of hitting 300 n/a hp on 87 oct. was even a realistic possibility and it now appears to me that it would be a shot in the dark - at best. I really don't want to pour alot of money into doing something if the outcome is 95% unattainable in the first place. I guess I'll just keep saving up for that KB twin-screw that I eventually want to get for the car in the distant future. Again, thanks for everyone's input! -JJ

......which will require something a little bit better than 87 octane.

to get 300 on 87 octane you will be able to buy a kb blower and then some with the amount of money you would be spending. kb route would be alot cheaper, but you still need a custom tune and higher octane

No, Really?!?! If I was blown I'd be putting in 93. I realize that
I didn't think that it would cost over a thousand bucks to do it if it were at all possible. The whole KB thing would take a while for me to get anyways (it IS expensive - well, for me right now at least). Oh well, I guess it's back to the drawing board! Time for me to go up into the mountains and formulate some other kind of plan now

For the money, you could probably do twice (almost) the HP supercharged than N/A.

I just now read that T&J is gonna be doing a tt setup. Now that is my future goal! I thought their big single idea was cool but after just now hearing about a tt setup from them that will be stock block safe, I have now subscribed to that Kudos to T&J for planning on a twin-turbo kit Everyday driveability is really important to me!

Are you kidding? I'm looking into forced induction and everywhere I see 400rwhp+ is the limit. How much is this kit gonna make? How much is it gonna cost? This kit would be the answer for me because for me to rebuild my motor at only 12,000 miles to accept the boost necessary to make the number is a waste.

Type of power adder doesn't matter if you're not going to build up your engine. Any one of them will blow a stock engine without even trying.
