You reuse your block with and overvore. The crankshaft has longer throws on it. The rods and pistons are shorter to fit into the same space. This increases the stroke and therefore displacement of the engine. Kits can be bought to do this or you could opt for one already built( a shortblock).

ya. a 347 is just a 302 block bored out .030" and has a different crank and rods to give it a longer stroke.

the block has to have slots/cutouts in it to be able to turn the longer stroke

Damn, 2bav8, you're not a coon-ass are you? Sure sound like one there. Got me one dem 331 strokers dere too, ya. ----------------------------And mustangdave, the rods in a 331-347 are longer, not shorter. I'f they were shorter, the pistons would hit the crank counterweights at BDC.
