what would be the best camshaft for 1600-5800 rpm i want to have lots of power at low rpms being that i am so heavy but i would also like to have a rilly lumpy idle so it sounds fast just idling

I dunno.

What other mods do you have? stick or 5-spd? What rear end gears? How much does your car weight? If AOD, what size stall on the converter? What did you east for breakfast?


We need a lot of info on your car first.

it has only a few mods now like longtube headers 2 1/2 exhaust shift kit and im in the middle of a mass air conversion, but it will soon have a edelbrock intake brodix heads bigger throttle body bigger injectors electric fans 4.11 posi slapperbars roller rockers and a couple minor weight reduction things. 2200 stall? also what is the deal on 1.7 ratio?
it is an automatic, 3.55 gears,AOD, it weighs about 3800lbs ruffly same as lincoln, and i had bacon n eggers for breakfast

One problem you'll face is that those engines with the really nasty sounding idle from lots of overlap ('big' cams - whatever that means) almost always suffer from pretty soft bottom end. So, generally, with only 302 cubes, you can't have both the nasty idle and the strong bottom end. You have to pick.

Also, have you actually had the truck on the scales? I'd guess it weighs quite a bit more than 3800 lbs....unless you've altered things.

iF YOU ARE STOCK HEADS, YOU won't get much increase. But you could stay SD with the crower 15501 cam that produces some real sick midrange power.

LSA 114, for SD motors. Hit LSA of 110, 112 for mass...like Crane 2030 or TFS1

oops i got my curb weight mixed with my payload it weighs about 4100lbs and i want a usable cam but noticable difference in sound.

my truck will soon become a mass air 5.0 so i wont need a speed density cam. what is the best cam for my application?

My advice is to call your favorite cam company's tech line (comp cams, crane, lunati etc). Tell them about your set up, what you are trying to achieve and see what they reccomend. They should also be able to suggest a stall converter to match their cam. I'd forget about the lopey idle. The new heads and intake may work wonders with the stock cam. You may also be ok using the stock injectors. I think the 19's are good for anything under 300hp.

i was thinking i would have to change injectors to 24lb. with the mods im doing i want to acheive at least 350hp. after i put the mass air on it should have about 230hp. so with heads, cam, intake, throttle body, roller rockers should be closer to 350 i think. how much horse is 300@rear wheels?450hp?

From what I've seen, the drivetrain usually absorbs around 25 or so HP. If you're shooting for 350HP, then the stock injectors would definately be too small. If you're aiming that high, I'd definitely be looking into a supercharger or turbocharger, in addition to the mods you've mentioned. Then you'll probably need a custom tune as well. Kenne Bell makes a nice supercharger for the F150 5.0 and makes lots of low rpm torque.

i think i want to stay all motor for now until i buy a mustang anyway. then i will transfer parts over like heads and such.
