My dads sticking my old 302 into 1969.. efi with the explorer intake.. Problem is with that intake and the valve covers i had to run a 1" spacer to clear them.. Will he have a clearance issue? Thanks
i believe the explorer intake is very similar to the mustang and tbird intakes, as well as the crown vic intake. its the F150 intake that is tall as heck.
According to Ron Morris Performance who specializes in EFI conversions the stock 87-93 5.0 intake is 11 inches tall. The 94-95 intake is 9.5 inches tall. The 95-01 Explorer intake is 11.5 inches tall. I would assume the tubular GT-40 and the 93 Cobra would be similar in height to the Explorer intake as they are identical inside. I have seen plenty of pictures of people using different variations of the gt40. I don't know how much spacer you need, efi short valve covers should aleviate the need for a spacer. Maybe if you run in to problems with the 1 inch spacer you could try a 1/2 inch. I hope this helps.
no1hedberg i just re-read you post.. not sure you understand. I was asking if we would have clearance issues with the hood being the intake would be 1" higher then stock
I'm not sure about the fit, that's why I quoted the info from Ron Morris. I guess what I was getting at is if you get it in there and it doesn't fit under the hood one option would be to use shorter efi valve covers, and take the spacer out to get a little extra room to clear the hood.
