The 68 cougar has smog heads on it now,
When the air pump is removed the temp runs higher.

I have a Bare set of 68 302 2V heads, non smog.
Will the valves fit?
They should have new hardened seats installed and maybe guides too.

I want to use an Air gap 4V intake with long tube headers and 600 Holley
with a mild cam.

Would it be worth the cost to rework the Bare heads?
Or I could pick up a set of 5.0 HO heads ready to bolt on from Ebay for around 300.00.

Will they work.

i would rework the heads you have, the later model heads have bigger combustion chambers and you'll a lot of compression, easily 1/2 a point maybe even as much as a full point. the valves from the smog heads should fit in the bare set, i don't recall them changing the valve size between the 2 heads, they just drilled the thermactor passage is all. why not have someone do a mild port job on the good set while you're at it, nothing major, just remove the thermactor bumps and do a little cleanup

Well if the valves will fit, I have a set of new guides and with the heads bare, I can do a port match and blending on them.

A swap old valves for new Port/Polish Kit.

And add the 1.62 Roller tip rockers.
