Trick Flow just came out with a bunch of Cleveland junk including a EFI "R" intake that will work with their Cleveland heads on top of a Windsor short block with a conventional fuel rail. Sweetness.

My father-n-law is currently putting a clevor together. At first I wasn't really excited about the idea. He is porting his own heads, but he is using 60's model iron heads. He just had the intake side flowed... 317cfm at .600 lift. Now I am getting a little excited! This should be fun to drive...oh yeah, its a 408 too.

Even with a carb set up? I could close it without the aircleaner but with it had to get a hood.

If you do a 351 make sure you have good heads i made that mistake and found that my buddies 302 with gt40p heads kept up with me. I have ported 69 351w heads with 194 160 valves and he uses stock explorer heads what a waste for me

That's the biggest mistake I see people make with 351s. They put 302 parts on them and then they run like 302s.

So I'm trying to get as many opinions as possible before I pull the trigger on a motor. I'm going to do a motor swap in my 90 4 banger. I'm on a typical high school budget (LOL) and I'm not sure if I want to go 302 or 351w. Either way it would have GT40p heads until funds allow for an upgrade to some aluminums and would be carbed with a T5. What do you guys think? I know there is the age old saying about displacement, but is the lower revs of the 351 worth the upgrade and added expense? Thanks for any help guys!

The most simple and economic upgrade is a relatively low mileage Explorer 302. With a cam change and valve spring upgrade you can run high 12s with your 5 speed easily. Have fun with the 302 and then save up your money for a more serious build with aluminum heads. You can decide on the 302 or 351 later for the long run.

Well, bumping my old thread...but it's only a few days old. It think it really depends on what I can find at my semi-local(about 2 hours away) pick and pull has. Any motor is the same price with a 30 warranty....that's why I wasn't sure which would be a better way to go. I took in a set of L/Ts on trade and I'm getting an 8.8 soon, but I'm not5 sure if the headers are off a 302 or a 351 but they are off a fox. Any way to tell which engine they are for? Is there a big difference in the angle of the flanges?
