302 timing question for my 68

I have a 302 in my 68. The only thing that has been done to it (to my knowledge) is a beefed up cam. The car seems to cut out from time to time and I thought it was going to be another carb issue, but my neighbor put his timing light on it and it read 10 deg. He's a Chevy guy and said that was too much for a Chevy, but wasn't sure about the Ford 302. He thinks 10 deg of timing may be too much and that is what's causing the car to cut out. Any advice here? I have a 69 ford mustang with a 2bbl 302 cid. I just got finished timing mine . The Hayes Manual indicated 6 Degrees. I think 10 degrees, I read, was for a 390/428/429 motor

If it's not detonating on hard accerleration then 10 degrees wouldn't be too much.

It's actually cutting out around 2nd gear when I accelerate normally. Also cuts out as I round a corner and accelerate out of the corner.

When you say "cutting out" do you mean it falls on its face a little? Or it detonates? If its not detonation, then I would look to other places. Possibly clogged fuel line/filter? I would look to a carb issue like you said. For what its worth, my 331 (5.0 based) has initial timing in the 12-14 range.

I'm currently running 2 cars, both with 302's. One dead stock and one beafed up.

I made a mistake in timing them and I was running them below 6 degrees.
Two weeks ago I had someone retime them also between 12 and 14 degrees which was recommended buy a Ford Motor builder and what a difference!

12 to 14 degrees would be correct. 32 to 34 degrees wide open throttle.

I time all my Fords at 12-14*BTDC. The Chevy guy is likewise leaving power on the table, keep him away from your stuff.
