For a street car or even a street car that will go to the strip every now and then, I think its waste to stop at 331 when you can go all the way to 347.

Now 302 vrs 306......not enough of a difference to worry about IMHO.

It really depends on the skirt design of the piston. If the piston pin bore does not intersect the ring groove, you should have no oil leaks, provided evrything else is in order. My Mahle pistons are engineered this way, many aftermarket pistons included in stroker kits do not.

Very good info until you got here. Most companies HAVE pulled the ring above the pin bore.

Thanks for the info guys.
Paul...the main benefit for me going the 347 route is being able to sell the Vortech, stock heads (like to Tmoss), Typhoon Intake, Injectors, etc to fund the 347. I would need go the long block with a custom cam, 185's, RPMII intake, and 30's. I can get about $2500 for all my old parts. Now that the Vortech just got reconditioned, it should make it easier to sell.

Thanks again.

It does NOT matter if the pin intersects the oil ring. What MATTERS is that its build/machined 110% correctly. I was gonna get the "bad" 5.4" rods that intersect the oil ring. Only reason I ended up changing to the 5.315" was because the 5.4" were on a backorder. I asked my builder about this and he said "its all bull sh it and it doesn't matter".

The key to ANY engine is the quality of the machine work and how its built.

Lots of guys need to stop reading mm&ff and their stupid dss 331 articles and get out there and talk to REAL people in the scene who know a thing or two or three

wow, i'm impressed, so the 347 may not be that unreliable after all, I need to research this some more but all of a sudden 347 seems more appealing now. Great info guys, keep the comments coming!

Ummm...It cant be more than 100%
Seriously though, I have talked to quite a few guys (local and at online shops) that seem to agree more and more that the oil bs is nowadays.
