Finally got a successful dyno run this morning, after a few days of fussing with injector sizing, spark plug gaps, etc. Super pleased with the results - the power number exceeded my best guess.

445rwHP @ 5,750RPM
427ft-lbs @ 4,600RPM

Thought I'd share, 'cause I'm geeked...

In brief:

'92 Mustang 5.0 block bored .030, squared, line-honed, decked
Forged pistons and rods (don't remember the brands) - 9.3:1 compression
Assembly balanced
Stock crank
Short block machining and assembly by Livernois Motorsports
Holly Systemax II 300-501 kit, including heads / Lunati cam / intake / pushrods / etc.
Comp Cams 1.6:1 rockers
42# Bosch injectors
75mm Ford Racing MAF
70mm BBK EGR spacer and throttle body
Novi 1000 blower with 3" pulley
EEC-IV / SCT chip / custom dyno-tune
JBA shorty headers
2.5" Flowmaster exhaust w/ H-pipe and Dynomax mufflers

It peaks at about 9psi of boost, 11.4:1 A/F at WOT and about 22deg total advance at WOT (separate advance curved for non-WOT operation), 10deg initial

The car pulls like its a$$ is on fire and will be a ton of fun in the spring, when it'll start spitting out trans parts, I'm sure (stock Cobra T-5):D :D :D :D

The car's pretty traction limited at this point. While I'm not a drag racer, I open-tracked it a few times last year (pre-blower) and had a ton of fun. It's going to be a whole different animal next year, and is going to require a bit more restraint when pressing the loud pedal.

Very nice numbers for the 'little' Novi...then again, your supporting mods are a nice mix. There is a very cheap price available for that blower, too. That provides a great data point for a potential swap!

What software/tuner was used to retune your EEC? I will have to cross that path soon...or go to an aftermarket engine management system.

I hope that within this calendar year, I can post some numbers and graphs for my 66.

I am now MOTIVATED to finish my combo. Mine will be very close in components and I would have been very happy with 400 H.P. at the crank. I will be lossing more than you going to through my t56 but I am all fired up to get it going oin the next 3-4 weeks.

Shakin -- I was hoping you'd see this, and use it to put a little fire back into your effort. With your stroker and similar boost, you're going to be downright scary. good luck - let me know if you need help w/ your project.:)

Thanks. Killer set up and the dyno proves it!

It's a stock A9L EEC-IV unit with a 4-bank SCT chip. It was tuned and programmed by Livernois Motorsports in Dearborn, MI, so I don't know the specifics of the software he used. Overall, the guy did a nice job, and the A9L is surprisingly adept at handling this pretty sharp departure from stock hardware (it was pretty good even before the tune). At one point, I was thinking about a FAST system or Megasquirt (like the adventurous among us) or some other engine control, but this one works surprisingly well... Driveability is excellent, it idles well at about 900RPM, cold-start involves about a minute of surging at idle until it settles down, but nothing major, hot-start is immediate and just like a stock Mustang, and acceleration is, well, out of this world...

Well Thanks! I hope your serious about the offer to answer questions because I am totally new to Fuel Injection. Where did you mount your Computer? Above the glove box in the cowl?

Yes - pretty much directly behind the glove box. I mounted it on a pair of rubber isolators screwed into the sheetmetal, then have it strapped to the isolators with nylon tiedown straps - that's to make it easy for the tuner to get to it, remove it and replace it. Because I strapped the control box for my digital dash in the same place, which is almost as large as the EEC computer, I got rid of the glove box altogether (not that our glove boxes were ever good for much...) The door's still there, but when you open it, you see computers... Anytime, shakin.:D

What cam are you using?

I'm interseted in how you are carrying the torque with the hp. Mine made more hp but didn't carry the torque? Maybe it's my tune? I'm only pushing about 5-6 lbs of boost.

Mine didn't stop making power until 6500 rpms...

MDJay --

Two questions for you:

1 - What ignition are you using? MSD? stock Ford? What have you found works. I've got the stock Ford TFI and it seems to be working OK, but wonder how close I am to the edge of that system's abilities...

2 - Are you running a blow-off valve? I'm not, and haven't seen any ill effects, but wonder if I shouldn't be. What do you think?

I had the Mallory Unilite and switched to the MSD 6al box and a Pro Billet dist (this is the best dist I've ever owned). The difference was huge!

However, you have me wondering about the curve a little. I'm considering backing off the advance a little earlier. I have a considerably bigger cam 586 lift solid roller and I can't move the initial hardly at all. There's about 1/8" adjustment and then it just won't start.

I am running a blow-off valve but I'm not sure it's working properly. When I first hooked it up, I could hear it discharge once in a while. I haven't heard a peap lately. But I'm only running 5-6#'s max.

Running 9#'s, I would seriously consider adding a blow-off as you could have an issue one day when you get all the way into it and have to slam on the brakes.

That block ought to last a good while making power below 6k.
mdjay...What is the spring in the BOV ? You only need to ear it when you let off the gas when in boost. It'll still make noise, even with 5 psi. You'll definetly know if it's venting. The non obnoxiuos types, aren't quiet.
