Has anybody tried these ...

I'm talking about ARAO engineering and 4valve/cyl heads...

I personally have never seen or heard of a 4v Windsor head. The flow data on their website http://www.araoengineering.com/ is impressive. However, at over $5k for a set of heads, you better have a big pocket book. To take advantage of this flow you would need to spend upwards of $20k on an engine. Way out of my range but very very cool!

you would probably have to have some serious cubes for that too. If I were going to spend $5000 on a set of heads, it sure wouldnt be those. Especially on a 5.0

Those heads were developed about 7 years ago under the company name of Dominion. They look interesting but cost way too much money.

why not just buy a 32v DOHC mod motor?
it'd be cheaper and its better with the over head cams.
i don't like the 1 lifter/pushrod operating 2 valves seems kind of wrong.

what he said.

That and the cost of the engine to go with those special heads would make it worth doing a M2 front end with the cobra motor. I just about did the cobra motor myself but decided on not hacking my car up anymore. Just need a new one now. heh

Nothing wrong with 1 lifter operating 2 valves. It's been done for decades without problems. Many diesel engines are set up that way and have run millions of miles without problems. The valves in a set up like that will have lighter springs, so the overall spring pressure will not be any different from a large single valve and it's far stiffer spring. May even be less pressure.

Dimentionally, it's the size of a big block, with only 281 cubic inches. Lack of bottom end torque. Have to go through the hassle of fuel injection. They need a power adder to be really fast (11 second or faster) and still be streetable.

Yeah the 4.6 mod motor was a huge disapointment when it came out. Ford has done a few things to it to bring the power up and reduce its weight, but I think I'll keep my outdated windsor. It makes more power with less money.

It would be cool if they could bring the cost down on those heads a bit. I remember seeing them somewhere a while back and I had been wondering what happened to them. I think they might have too much flow for me to ever take advantage of on my street car so they couldn't really help me anyway.

my point is that the whole reason for having a multi valve head is to use variable cam timing so that at low speed there is no torque loss due to the reduced turbulent flow associated with a large valve. and then at high speeds the larger surface area enables higher flow. plus with this windsor hybrid setup you have an increase in the amount of internal components creating more internal friction and more potential failures. i dissagree with the mod motor being a dissapointment, maybe to some people it was, but it is a quantum leap in technology above any windsor motor. i for one was extemely happy with both the performance, reliability and drivablity of both my 97GT and 2002GT. the Mod motors respond extremely well to bolt on's and with the 99 up cars producing more HP than a windsor motor is easy. and it costs about the same if not less, for a street car setup anyway.

Not any longer, there's at least one company making carb intakes for them now. Little bit on the pricey side though, at $700 a pop. Edelbrock's rumored to be coming out with carb intakes for them too in the near future.

32 valve dominion arao ford heads

I was just doing some searches on the site and came across this thread, I know its old but I thought it would be good to post some 32v ford pics as I have a few sets of these 32v sbf heads. I have a bunch of tech I could post if anyone does have any questions about these pushrod 32v heads, just ask.

I recently ordered a complete 428w RPM MAXX short block from FPS to put together a Clevor version setup with these heads. I am converting this set to a boss int port right now for big ci.

This set FPS ported and I will also finish converting these to a boss int port for a big ci blower app...

This is what I am putting together now, a 32V 428MAXX. The short block FPS built, in pics you can see the 4 valve piston reliefs needed for these heads. FPS did this for me and also cut a custom 4 valve cam also. I found out FPS has built a few of these 32V ford versions so it was an easy choice to get FPS's help with my project too.

some dont know it but some of the sbc 32v versions parts can be interchanged with the sbf 32v versions.

WOW that looks amazing, if I ever had the $$$ that would be a fun project. I bet you could set some records in a small block NA class?

What are you gonna do w/ this engine? Surely you're gonna race it. The intake plenum and runners are huge!. I can't see it being very street friendly.

Hi these engines are going to be a street/strip deal. It definatly has been a fun deal so far getting into this 4 valve pushrod tech. I was heavy into clevelands in the past too so getting more into the Clevor stuff now has also been fun.

in addition to what D said, you also have smaller ports and valves, granted you have two of them per cylinder. but that means that port velocity is going to be higher despite the fact that the total port volume is the same as the larger single port. that mean you get the best of both worlds in that you get good port velocity at low speeds, and you still have the port volume needed for higher speeds.

you still have to build the motor with a systems approach though, you just have more flexibility with your engine build.

4v pushrod heads

I also was just thinking that some of you might get a kick out of seeing the Olds W-43, seems to have some interesting simularitys to the arao heads. Knowing about this engine is what got me into wanting the same 4V tech for my ford stuff...

a neat w-43 vid clip
‪OLDSMOBILE 455 W-43 EXPERIMENTAL HEMI AND OTHER EXOTIC ENGINES - THE JOHN BELTZ YEARS PHOTO TRIBUTE‬‏ - YouTube

I heard that ford was advertising some type of 32 valve conversion kit also in some old pantera advertisments and I did find a SBF kit by Globe, been wondering if it could of been the same one, a very trick kit.
