I am building a 342. 302 block std bore, 5140 forged crank w/3.40 stroke, 5.315 rods, probe 1.175 pistons w/14.2cc dish, 302 Edelbrock Victor JR intake. Haven't determined cam yet.

Heads I have are stock 302 58.2cc heads 1.78/1.45 valves gasket matched/light porting ( smothened out and smog bumps removed ). Still have press in rocker studs but will upgrade to screw in's. CR figures out to 9.73:1 with this set up.

Question is will the stock 302 heads with the light porting still allow the 347 to perform well? I know the gt40P's would be a better choice and plan to upgrade to them later ( budget right now won't allow it ).

Also will the 302 Victor JR intake work with the GT40P heads when I do get to upgrade?

I'd personally ditch the stock 302 heads. Keep in mind they are designed for a 302 not a 342. Also it really isn't designed with performance in mind. Yes your intake will work with the other heads. Also I'd look into some screw in style studs. Especially if you want to run a high lift cam or high rpms.

That's what I was thinking but didn't want to admit it. Boy, is the wife gona hollar when I tell her I gotta fork out another $600.00 for my little toy . Thanks for the reply.

Dont waste the money on a forged crank when a cast steel crank can hold any amount of HP within the stock block range. Cast steel crank are fine to 700-800 flywheel hp, when your combo needs a forged crank, your talking 4 digit numbers. Take the few hundred dollars your saving from the forged to cast crank and throw it into some nice heads. If your not paying upwards of 800-900$ on a forged crank, then its either not forged, or a peice of crap.

Ditto. My 347 has 700 GHP (guesstimated hp) and all it has is a cast Scat crank. It's fairly light weigh too. I think I paid like $200 for it. Just make sure it goes through a lot of heat cycles before you twist your car @ high rpm's.

BTW you don't need to tell the wife about your performance parts

how about some ported windsor sr. heads (200cc) for ~$600....
