351 Clevland Heads

I would REALLY doubt it. I haven't had a 65 in years, but I think there is even less room than my 67. There not much room for plug wires I'll tell you that.

You thinking Clevor I guess. Seems like you would be better off doing 351w.

a buddy from school has the heads and will sell them for 200 bucks and an intake manifold to match. so if they work ill probably do it. but i need to exactly what could work. thanks for your input

If the heads arent closed-chamber 4V, then skip them. You'd need to shift some coolant ports(plugging/drilling) and then you'd need a Boss 302 intake and headers. When all complete, you could look forward to having an engine that ran like crap below 4000rpm. Seriously, even the 4V 351C has a reputation of having a lack of bottom end torque thanks to huge ports and valves on a fairly small engine.

yes you can put 351c heads on a 289.
yes they will fit between the shock towers.
yes you will have to do some modification to make the heads work on the 289 block.
no the 351c intake wont work as it is too wide.
you will need swap headers to make the installation work.

by the time you spend the money for the heads, proper intake(or adaptors), the correct pistons to prevent the valves hitting the pistons, the swap headers, and a few other items i have forgotten, you can buy a set of windsor jr heads, an edelbrock intake(the performer rpm), and a set of headers that fit the 289, and likely have money left over. you can also buy used gt40 heads(not the gt40p's) and definately have money left over.

Yes... ( as stated above!!) Cost... vs power ?? or are you looking for 400 HP 65 stang?? the head mods can be made at a machine shop.. ( 300-400.00 + valve job/surface/ect??) The intake is the BOSS 302 ( 500.00 -1200.00) or you cam contack PME for adapters that will allow the 302 intakes to fit!! ( yep..302W on a 351C heads) ( adapters 270.00 + 96.00 f/dist. adapter).
You can bolt the heads on a flat top piston.. how ever you need the keep the cam lift UNDER .450 ( sux!!) Or .. 302 crankshaft.. 289 rods.. after market pistons ( old Boss 302 type 550.00 or KB's for 300.00)... but...
your questions answer is YES!!

If it comes with the 302C intake, no matter what, BUY IT! Those intakes are rare & worth $$$. Even if you don't use it, it would be a heck of an investment.

The Clevors make lots of power; the $$$ factor and effort involved is why most people go to aluminum heads now (and make about the same power), but the intake is one of the most $$ parts and if you got that and the heads for $200, I'd seriously consider doing it, if just to be different.

There is a 351W based Clevor and a 289/302 based Clevor. The problem, as others have stated, is that the company that made the intakes and headers for this hybrid has been out of business for a number of years. Both the intake and headers are VERY pricey IF you can find them. I have a buddy who has a 302 Clevor intake. I don't know if he'd be willing to sell, but PM me if you'd like for me to ask.

The heads will bolt to a 289:rolleyes: . If you want to do it, do it. I was thinking about it.You don't have to buy a boss 302 intake. You can still find a B&A intake everyonce in a while. I would even look into cleveland shorties if anyone makes them. Aussie Clevland heads would go good on a 302. Higher compression and smaller valves.

Thanks!! I couldn't remember the name of the company that made these parts. You may be right about the Cleveland shorties possibly working, and the Aussie heads would be the choice for a 289/302.
As I mentioned above, I have a friend who has a B&A intake for a 289/302 that he is not using. What I failed to mention, however, is that I also have a mechanic friend who owns a Fox body Capri RS (not sure of the year, maybe '85 or '86) with a 351 Clevor. He built it for a guy who ran into financial problems and never quite got it tuned. I rode in it when the other guy had it and was not impressed, but I'm sure it was never tuned properly. IIRC, the B&A intake was approximately $400 at the time, and I specifically recall that the headers were $450. My mechanic friend ended up with it because his bill was never fully paid, and he has so many other projects that it has just fallen to the wayside.

Yeah, but any poorly built motor can be a dog. I did see a write up in a 5.0 that had a 408 with 4v heads. All he did was clean up the casting fuzz in the runners. I think it ran 10.80's on motor ? I know it was 10's, and the reason built it was because everyone said it was a waste of time.

Yes on the headers.. we are using the 4V C headers for the 4v heads, be carefull though... the 2V exhaust will not fit correct, with 4V headers.. you HAVE to use the 2v for the 2v , however you can use 2v on the 4v heads.. The exhaust ports are not as wide as the 4v and you will have one heck of an exhaust leak!! cool??

Aussie heads will also work.. there are two different guys in Ohio that (Used ) to sell them 450.00 to your door .

I run Cleveland heads.... but my motor is a cleveland :)

It's not worth it. Honestly, with time you'd have to spend, you might as well wait and save for an aftermaket set of heads. If used heads don't bother you, save your money and get a set of used AFR's.

TRUST ME, it's not worth it unless the heads are 4v Closed chamber, and it comes with the intake.

If you want, I'll sell you my heads, which are a proven low 13 second head on motor for 250 bucks. I wont give you the intake though :)
