Hey guys. Does anyone make a long tube header like 1 7/8" that work with the stock k member on the 94/95 cars??? I'm still running Mac 351 swap shorties (very small) Also i have the Mac 3 piece off road x pipe. I just want something that will fit without buying a new k member. 500lbs or tq is nice but i would like some HP this year.

give george at accufab a call

Exhaust

i had gone with kooks, and wasnt happy with the fitment, so i went to accufab and am happy with them. i ended up going with the mid lengths

http://forums.stangnet.com/734236-accufab-mid-length-headers-install.html

off topic ... just curious ... with your 9.1:1 compression ratio, are you planning a blower of some sort in the future?

Yep i wanted a Kenne bell but i find the gt40 lower a but restrictive....ported who knows. If not i do have plenty of room for a turbo. Im using bracketru from a 1990 lincoln mark 7....i didnt like how far the sn-95 brackets work and wanted to give myself room. I was looking at accufab but i didnt know they made a mid length header....is that the same as a shortie?

I'd go with the Accufab midlengths. See if George can do you some 1 7/8 ones. The midlengths would be much less headache than the longtubes.

it's between shorties and full lengths. for me, it was the best compromise because i have 0 issues with them hanging too low, and i could put the O2 bungs very close to the stock locations so that tuning it is more straight forward

how much of a hassle are the full-length???

The mid-length aren't equal length, I have always seen better results with equal length headers

Um I have those from accufab LT and they had to take the k-member off lol. Now based on everything I heard from peeps that bought them DONT by kooks.

I found equal length headers an absolute nightmare to work with ... burning plug wires and making it very difficult to get the plugs out. Then again, the ones I had were equal length shortys, not long tubes.

The problem(s) I had with the KOOKs were:
- they hung really low, scraping on speed bumps and driveways,
- they leaked like crazy,
- i could not find a place where i could put cats, but that may have been related to where the installer put the x-pipe
- they moved the O2 sensors far enough away from the engine that the sensors were more likely to cool off too much and become unreliable.

but boy, did they look great!

All those problems went away with the mid-lengths.

well, since this is a 90% strip car (only time on street will be driving to and from track and car shows), I don't think those problems would bother me.

KOOK's SUCK. They should have refunded Chris in my o.

The problem(s) I had with the KOOKs were:
- they hung really low, scraping on speed bumps and driveways, Not an issue with my accufab LT's AT ALL
- they leaked like crazy, Not an issue with my accufab LT's AT ALL
- i could not find a place where i could put cats, but that may have been related to where the installer put the x-pipe CATS no issue
- they moved the O2 sensors far enough away from the engine that the sensors were more likely to cool off too much and become unreliable. DING..I bought a PMS to straighten that out.

My 414ci gained 60rwtq down below with the LT's and upper RWHP 25rwhp after all was said and done ..

I also have a gforce T-5.

Heres the other question with that.....Is it necessary to change the rest of my exhaust right now? I have a nice 2.5" Mac off road x pipe, catback with 3" tips i put on almost 2 years ago. I know my biggest restriction was the 1 5/8 headers. And if so does anyone sell a catback thats 3" or must i fabricate this?

there are 3" cat back systems out there and you will have to use a different mid pipe for Long Tubes.

You think i could take the 3" collector and make an adapter to neck it down to 2 1/2" ??? You think that will hurt performance seeing how theres no cats just an x pipe and chambered mufflers??

is there any fitment issues w/ Long Tubes with aftermarket K members as opposed to the stock K member?

99% of the time, aftermarket k-members provide a lot more room, so there are typically fewer fitment issues with an aftermarket k-member

they are also a good bit lighter

before you go down that road, do this:

call george at accufab. maybe he can make them the way you want with the bigger primaries and the 2 1/2" collectors ...

OK sounds good. ill do that tomorrow. Do you think there will be any performance loss between 3" and 2.5" on a 383 motor? I don't go much over 6000rpm

Yeah i hear on an exhaust that most of the restriction is in the headers. So the rest being 3" may not be necessary on a street car. But i dunno.
