Is the gas mileage between the two relatively similar, and what kind of performance difference will there be with both having a forged bottom end, and maybe some kind of power adder in the future?

351 hands down regardless of the bottom end.

But will it be worth going through all of that hassle, since this car is my DD?

dollar for dollar and pound for pound the 351 is twofold what the 302 is. You will know it's worth it when your right foot gets heavy. Assuming your not just dumping a stock 351 in.

No, it'd be a built shortblock. AFR 185's, Trick Flow 351 manifold, and an Ed Curtis custom ground cam...I just don't want to do the swap, and be getting like 9mpg in the city. I know with the extra hp, my mpg is going to go down, but I cant afford something like that.

If you're going to stroke the 351, then its a no brainer. If not, 331 (347 would be better and cost no more)

I would probably stroke it out eventually...well, once I bought another car. So yeah, now all's I gotta do is start prepping my bank account for this .

Depends. i don't think that it's as clear cut as these guys (most of them) are making it out to be. A 331 or 347 are alot more cost effective and yield good results. If you already have exhaust, a good intake, and most of the other bolts ons already, the 331-347 will cost you half as much. From a performance stand point the windsor is much better but requires a bit of stuff to put in. Hood clearance could also be an issue if you don't already have a cowl induction hood.

Put a nice 347 together for now and wait to do the stroked 351 when you afford it.

You can build a killer 347 with those heads.
