my builder/ friend has some 351w heads like a 69 or so he said i could use for my 408 ...i dont think porting them and polishing them will still make them flow enough will they? thats question one

question two is if i get them all worked will they make a good head for my current 302???

I have heard that the late model E7 heads flow better than the old 351 heads.

On the 69/70 351w engines the power maker was compression. Unfortunately, the compression came from the deck height on the block being about .060 less than the later blocks. That gave about 1-1.5 points of compression. The heads CAN be ported, but then so can the E7's. I think you would be better off with some ported E7's. IMO.

There were some 351 heads that had very large chambers.

They were so large ... their application was not suited for
an upgrade application on the 5.0 motor.

Uh-Uh, Final.
The oversized 351 heads were the Cleveland heads, not the Windsors.
The '69 (C90E) and '70 (DooE) 351 heads were the best you could do way before the many modern Aluminum heads came out.
Any of those would breathe bertter than the 351s.

I'm aware of the Cleveland motor offering

It was a such long time ago and I could certainly be not
remembering things correctly

I just seem to remember several kids in school bolting on 351
heads on their 289's and 302's and loosing power big time
and the issue was all about the chambers being too large thus
they has lost most of their compression.

I certainly don't dispute some 351 heads could not be used for
an upgrade with positive results as I saw many do it with the
260 - 302 sbf's back in that day.

so should i look for some gt40's?? i just cant aford 1600 for a box set...i would like too but i dont want to spend big money on heads unless they will be useful for both of my motor applications and i dont think any one head will be.... im just sick of being slow right now lol and if i find some really cheap parts i want to throw them on this motor to try and help out while its under the hood.

the thing about the 69-70 351w heads are that they had bigger valves. 1.84 in and 1.54 on the exh. they also had 58cc combustion chambers. the e7s are 1.78 in 1.45 exh. and i think 64cc chambers. im pretty sure they also didnt have the emissions hump in them either. ive heard theyre pretty decent heads.
