i got a chance to get a 351 for nothing.i just wanted to know if anyone has any info on what i will need. other than a new lower intake, motor mounts, hood and any other parts im not thinking about right off hand.
and is this swap worth the trouble? i know im leaving out a whole list of stuff im gonna need. and this is going to be a winter project so i have time to get the parts. i was just hoping someone on here has done this and can point me in the right direction.

it will be the same set up thats on the car now except with a b cam that i picked up at the all mustang show at summit racing saturday still in the box for 50 bucks.
any help out there guys. thanks in advance

Hey there. I have built a few Windsors. I would absolutly recommend the swap. You get a TON of torque. I think I will actually do that swap, when the car is safely in the garage for the winter. What year is your "cheap" block? If it's a roller, you're in there. If it's not, you'll need to convert it to retain the spider in the lifter valley for the lifters. It won't like to rev like the 302, but you wont need it too. Everything else should all work. A truck lower could be a good solution for the intake. Good luck. Let us know how it all works out.

it is a roller block. not sure what year it is though. i'll try to find out. it would be a winter project. gonna put the b cam in the car now and see what hp i end up with and be done with it till winter.

I got one for free too, but its a flat tappet. You can find out the year from the casting number. Mine D4, which means its a 74. To do the swap you will need to drill your heads to fit the larger head bolts a 351 uses, headers, lower intake, distributer, hood if you dont have an aftermarket one, widen your fuel rails and I think thats it. From what I know you dont NEED to swap motor mounts.

Yup. The engine mounts are the same. The bellhousing will bolt up. Just make sure you have the correct flywheel. 157 tooth, I think. Make sure its for the Windsor. I would seriously consider a stroker, if you have the slight "extra cash" and don't have a bottom end, yet. 392"/408" can make STUPID power, even N/A! Scat makes cranks for them. I can't think of anything else. Your starter should even work.

A free 351W roller block....Yeah, that would make the swap worthwhile :D. You will also need a new distributor and headers. 5.0L UL shorties might work, if not you will need 351 swap LT's which can be rather expensive.

Also, you can use your stock starter, but I don't recommend using it with LT's....The heat will kill it very quickly.

thanks for the help guys,i'm seriously considering this swap this winter.i mean the motor is free, how could i go wrong with that?i cant.summit carries some shorties for the 95 cobra R,you think those would be allright to use?

I think the oil pan is different, too. Now that I think about it. I know they make a Fox specific one. Our cars are the same as a Fox, as far as the crossmember and stuff are concerned, right? I would think that the Cobra shorties would work fine. THAT makes this prospect VERY interesting!

thanks again for the help here guys, but now i have a delema on my hands. my girl told me she would flip the bill for a procharger p1sc or pay for all the stuff i would need to do the swap. she is awesome but she just threw a wrench into my plans and i have to decide which way to go.

dang she's a keeper. i think i'd do the swap anyway because he motor is free and you still get good gains from it. you can still throw on a blower later.

for me, it'd be a no brainer because i am convinced my bottom end needs to be rebuilt
