The last part I am pretty sure that I'll need for my build will be a drop-base air cleaner. I'm going to be using a 351w with a Weiand Stealth in my 66. The car has stock 66 mounts... I'd prefer not to replace them unless the air cleaner proves it won't be enough.

I'd like to have a 14" diameter chrome air cleaner (no funky Edelbrock triangular thingies, please... no offense to those who have them, of course). Not sure how tall and how much of a 'drop base' it has to be.

I am pretty sure that there are air cleaners that are low profile enough to fit without issue... anyone have a part # for me?

Thanks!

I don't know the part # off hand, but I used a Holley brand 14" drop air filter that is normally on the shelf at Advance Auto. It has a decent drop. I further modified mine to fit my 393 stroker with a Vic Jr. intake and put a 289 hipo lid on it:

How much does the flange that mounts on top of the carburetor have to be above the actual bottom of the cleaner be considered dropped?

My current one's mounting flange is already about an inch higher than the absolute bottom of the cleaner... if that makes sense. Is it already a 'dropped' base cleaner or is there more to it?

air cleaner

I have a 351W in my 68 with an edelbrock performer RPM intake, edelbrock carb, and a moroso 14" circular 2" drop air cleaner. I had to use a 3/4" spacer between the carb and cleaner to avoid contact with the throttle linkage. I am using a 3" summit reuseable filter. For a 14" circular air cleaner, there are several different heights if filters. You need to take in to account what carb you are going to use as well. I have heard of people using modeling clay to find out how much space is available.
