373 intallation with no tune...any troubles?

I just recently had 373 installed in my automatic. which i love. I have not as of yet got a tuner to change the stuff that goes with it( speedo...ect) the shift pattern feels good, is there really any need to get a tuner other then the obvious speedo correction and is there any damage that could be done without a tuner correction.

your speedo and shift points will be off. your mileage on your odometer will also be affected.

+ 1 on what bigcat said, you should def get a tuner, to correct your speedo and mileage, its just bad business not to, oh and the tuner will adjust shift points and firmness with an auto, which will be a huge difference to what u feel right now.

So it will add more KM's to my car then actually driven before i get a tuner, and once it is tuned it will be better then it allready is.
any suggestions on which on and is it really plug and play? cause i have a k and n cai that did not require a tune so when i get into it will i just stay with the stock intake tune?

you can get your tuner and a tune from brenspeed. (at least i think he has tunes for the K&N) then you wont need to return to stock intake, and get the most from your investment.

correct you will add about 10% more miles than what it is actually being driven. if you notice going 45 the speedo says 50 or so, it is saying you would travel 50 miles in an hour instead of 45.

SCT xcalibrator 2 is wht i have. easy to use, takes 5 minutes to load up and make changes.

stay with stock tune, and adjust the "additional parameters" on the tuner. go to axle ratio then 373. press select and install changes. easy

During the reprograming of mine, I added 5% to the shift pressure in all gears. Barely noticeable with "sensible" driving, but can definitely feel the shifts once you're about half throttle+!!!!! With the 4.10s and the added power, mine pulls much better now without having to kick down as far or as often. I love it!!!!!

ok..i finally got the tuner and what a difference it makes. Now you say to adjust it to 5% per point...what happens at a different % say higher?

Higher percentage would probably mean harder shifts.

I didn't set it any higher than 5% due to the fact I don't want to possibly grenade my tranny yet... You know the saying..."just because you can, doesn't mean you should...".

ok cool so that will "firm up" my shifts? and feeding my car 89 octane with a 87 tune is ok? But having 89 octane on a 91 tune is not?
I know it was debated earlier in another thread....but i just want to make sure it was good before i try it and fry my engine.
Is there any such thing as a 89 tune in a sct? Cause they only sell 87 89 and 91.

Your completly safe with running 89 octane on a 87 tune. And yes... if you run a lower octane then what your tuned for, your engine will have the likley chance of pinging. As for your other questions, I cant help you.

EDIT: Yes your shifts will be firmer. Quicker shifting, and more pronounced gear change, if that makes sense. The higher the percentage, the quicker and firmer, I believe. Atleast thats the way it is on my tuner for my F-150.

I use 87 in mine on a 91 tune and haven't had any pinging what-so-ever. I mix my gas usually ever other time though. 87 one tank full and then 89 the next. 93 gas here is just way too damn expensive.

My dealer just replaced my stock gears (3.31s) with 3.73s. He told me that the speedo was off by 15mph but he was able to adjust it so that it is now only off by 5mph. Shouldn't they be able to flash the computer? I know that a programmer will fix this, but I am not planning to buy one until I get the C&L intake in a couple of months.

I just picked my car up and I am bummed :damnit: I listened to everyone else instead of you guys and now I am stuck with 3.73s. For anyone else not sure if they should go with 3.73 or 4.10, don't think twice about it. 3.73s are definitely NOT enough. I thought this car would be like my 93 LX was with 3.73s but it is not even close.

i just used a sct tuner on mine yesterday actually and once you get it tuned you will not belive the difference.
And you are right with the 373's its not a big difference
Dont give up hope it does get better!

Your car being the manual, I wouldn't worry about it hurting anything if it's 5 MPH off. It should be fine until you get your tuner. My only question is how come the dealer couldn't get it closer The only downside to your speedo being 5 MPH off is you will rack up a few artificial miles on her...just remember at the end of the day to put it up on blocks and run it in reverse and they will disappear
On the way home I wrote down a few speeds at given RPMs then went back out and checked again after the tuner change. I found that what was showing 90 MPH before the change was actualy near 65.

The dealer gave me some B.S. about only being able to punch in a limited number of codes and that he went with the one that was the closest, which is 5mph over. I have a feeling that they don't have much experience with this.

Anyway, thanks for the advice but I don't need to worry about mileage since I drive forward to work everyday and backwards on the way home.
