I have a 97 GT and i am gonna install a 373 gear. The problem is how do i change the speedoto match the gear? I went to the ford place because I thought you could just change the gear. But they didn't sell one that matched the t45 to the 373. I have a sct tuner but the is no option to account for the gear. Any help would be great.

I am pretty sure that you can just change the gear in the tranny, but I have heard quite a few people say the Speedcal from Dallas Mustang is more reliable...I am NO expert on your year but just trying to help. Anyway, here is a link if you want to check it out.

You can just change out the spedometer gear on the transmission.

I beleive Latemodel Restoration Supply - Mustang & Chevy Truck Parts sells them.

The Dallas Speedcal will work also, but it is more expensive.

You can't use your SCT tuner because pre-99 transmissions use a mechanical sending unit, and not an electronic one.

Speedcal from Dallas Mustang is the way to go. I swapped the speedo gear at first, and it just got chewed up in about 200 miles of use. It was a 23 tooth gear (white) from John's Mustang Late Model Mustang 5 SPEED SPEEDO GEARS .
