3G alternator conv. plug

While looking on 50resto.com today, I discovered an adapter plug that changes the 3G alternator's output into a plug that just plugs into the 2G harness. It is found at http://secure.50resto.com/category.cfm?SID=1&Category_ID=575

I'm about to do the conversion myself, and I was wondering if this would be a good idea. It doesn't replace the power wire, right? So I can still upgrade that. Has anybody else used this? Any thoughts?

You are going to push 130 amps down wiring that is only supposed to carry 65 amps? Do you smell the smoke and see the flames yet?

You need a 4 guage wire and a fuse rated at 125-150 amps to carry the current without risk to your fine machine.

For the right way to do the wiring. Some people will tell you that you can skip the wiring upgrade, but it will catch up with you sooner or later. A fire in the wiring harness is ugly and expensive.

I thought that plug wasn't part of the power wire, I thought the power wire was seperate, right?

Those are all excellent links to the 3g upgrade...personally I got everything I needed from the junkyard and the 4AWG wiring from my local Home Depot for I think .19 a foot or something like that...whole thing including j/yard alt cost me less than $30 and thats including a Taurus fan....been running fine since early summer...

if you dont want to buy new what year alternator do you need to buy for this conversion? and how hard would it to be to put in.

On smithmontes site (http://www.geocities.com/smithmonte/Auto/3G_130A_Alternator_Upgrade.htm) there's a list of all vehicles that have the 3g alt...I personally got mine from a 93 3.0 Taurus (I think) and the hardest part was grinding down the alt bracket to fit the beefy 3g and that wasn't hard if you have the right tools ie die grinder, dremel or whatever...took me about 45 minutes in my garage...time well spent...

Just curious, how does that Taurus fan work out? Will it bolt up directly to the radiator or does it have to be modified? Also, do you have a/c and how well does it cool the temp?
