3G alternator needs a new bracket?

I am about to order a 3G alternator with at least 150AMPS. Where is a good place to buy one (I checked ebay) and also whats this about needing a different alternator bracket? If so where can I grab one?

Nope...you don't need a new bracket...you grind off an inside corner on your bracket...you will see where and how much it is when you try to put the 3g alternator in and try to align the two bolts...it is like 1 inch of total area...I just got out my grinder and ground on it for a bit and all was well...fits and works nicely

Yep I did the same thing. I grinded with a drill and I went through about 3 stones before it was all done. It was easy.

I used one of those handheld grinders and nothing wore out on it...of course the I put on safety glasses...those little pieces aren't good for the eye ...they are pretty cheap but they can tear somethings up for their size...

My electric drill kept running out of batteries too. It took me like 2 hours to grind everything away.

Man, do I need better tools.

Well I don't know about 150amps but a 130amp would be enough for you and a nice replacement over stock...

www.paperformance.com is where I got mine from...it is a little pricey with the Alternator and the 4g wire upgrade kit but it comes with everything you need and color instructions (includes where to shave the bracket at)...it even comes with zipties

I got mine off ebay. It's used, but still works perfectly. I got it with the wires for ~$70

The 3g and 4g are referring to different points in my thread...sorry I didn't clarify...the "4g" is a form of measurement on the amp-load (I believe) and thickness (which kind of go hand in hand) of the actual wire...for example 10guage wire (10g) would be skinnier than the 4guage (4g) wire...

The bigger wire will help prevent any underhood fires because of the "old" wires not being able to handle the new power from the "3g alternator"...I'm not exactly sure why the alternator is called a "3g"...?

Looks fine to me. You'll need all of that stuff they show in the picture. The only bit of that stuff that you can't find at a local stores is the white stator wire. It doesn't say that it comes with that. I would e-mail them first to find out.

Usually in car terms, the G in 3G means 3rd generation. I guess that's the 3rd major design in alternators for mustangs?

Okay, now that I helped you, could you turn your key to the ON position (assuming your car is cold) and feel your oxygen sensors after ten minutes. Are they warm?

get a nice 4awg cable, put it to a 200amp fuse and the other end to the solenoid...and if you want to change the bracket and lose the tensioner, march has an alternator tensioner bar that deletes the idler and bracket...

No, I'm serious. Will you do me this favor? I need to know if the oxygen sensor heaters turn on with the key in the ON position. I haven't been able to get anyone to do this yet.

I would recommend lower than a 200 amp fuse. The reason being the higher the rating the longer it will take to blow even when there is a huge spike.
