I am thinking about a 2009 and was wondering if this spark plug problem is the same issue Ford had with 2000-2001 F150's with the 5.4 liter 3 valve engine. I think it is different as people were stripping the heads out when removing plugs. Supposedly the the heads only had three threads and many people stripped their heads out and got stuck with repair bills in the thousands.

Anyway, I wan't/need a two door, rear wheel drive 8 cylinder car that doesn't weigh 4,000 pounds. The Mustang is my only choice and a good one at that. I loved my 2004 Mach but had to sell it for financial reasons. I don't think this plug issue is enough to stay away as long as it is a plug issue and not the heads on the engine.

I believe in the 2008 model year they changed back to a 'normal' style spark plug, so a 2009 should be fine.

If the heads get screwed up by the plugs, then it's time to get new aftermarket/ported cylinder heads with aftermarket camshafts. It's the only solution!

I am an aircraft mechanic. I pulled the plugs in my 06 Gt with 8K on it last weekend. 30 min job and no issues. Cleaned the plugs up and put them back in. After I broke them loose from being torqued down they came out with my fingers.

Since this is pretty darn easy I think I will just pull them every other oil changed and clean them up a bit. Pretty damn simple for piece of mind. Heck I do preventive maintenance on aircraft all of the time, no reason not to do preventive maintenance on my ride.
