I am trying to decide if to get 4.10 gears for daily driving or should i go with 3.73s. What would be the average diff. in gas milage and what kind of top speed could i expect with the 4.10s.

With your car, 4.10 all the way. I use 4.10 in my daily driver, which I commute with on an 85 mile round trip three days a week. Same mileage as with the previous gears, which ended up being 3.55 instead of 3.27 (no real difference between those two though).

On cars with the stock intake, I can see gears this deep being kind of a pain. But, with an aftermarket one, like my Performer and especially with your Performer RPM, the engine is so much more rev happy that it just feels normal at speed.

BTW- At 6,000 rpm in 5th gear you would be at 164mph.

Thats good new, i was leaning toward getting them, so that helps. what kind of gas milage do you average with your 4.10s?

In a mix of city & highway, with more city than highway, I average 18-19mpg. So, I'm guessing that the highway mileage would be somewhere in the mid 20's.

Yea get 4.10s....I have 3.73's now and im about to upgrade to 4.30's because of my h/c/i package. Its still gonna be a daily driver and it will still see the highway.

No, but I can remember that it always felt a little "strained" at higher speeds with the stocker and the gears it had before. That would have been exaggerated with deeper gears. I'm guessing that you have a ported stocker, right?

thank you for siding with the 4.10s to many poeple think its too much.

now if your the kind of guy who likes to cruise at 85 on the freeway and think 3k is high revving, just think about your others cars or wifes car,

the v6 taurus or the honda civic they ride much higher. dont feed into the bs that it will wear out your engine. it doesnt these cars. ok ok a taurus motor craps out every 100k but thats becaus ethat 3.0 is a piece, all the tauruses and minivans need a new engine around there.

Please note, as I'm sure you did, that Mrgreen94gt is running an aod, while the poster is running a 5 speed. That does make a bit of a difference.

But that's no reason not to go with the 4.10s. I plan to go with em soon on my otherwise stock 94 GT.

Don't fear the gear.

Are you sayin that there isnt much of a difference performance wise between the 3:73's and 4:10's???? There is actually a HUGE difference.

A 373 would be a friendlier gear...

A steeper gear ratio will WEAR out the engine quicker...talk to Michael Yount about that one...

A "v6 taurus" and "honda civic" are different engines/setups...don't compare apples to oranges...

I've been in every possible geared car except one with 456's or higher...and 373's provide a nice balance...410's are to much to be sitting on the highway at 3k at 80mph...that is HALF the potential revving capabilities of a car with even an average h/c/i setup...let alone a stock engine...no need for that...

Do this...if you want to know what this high gear is going to be like on the highway...just pull out in 1st gear and coast it up to 3k...do you "feel" what it feels like...now imagine that at 80mph...I personally hate the "holding" back feeling...

Plus when you get in those high of revs on the highway especially the aerodynamics and engine drag will try to pull you back so you have to stay on the gas also...may not be noticeable but your also pulling in more air which means more fuel which means decreased gas mileage...

With a steep gear...your engine starts to become its own "brake" on the car...trying to slow itself down...

373's is a nice overall choice from my unbiased viewpoint...if you want a track king...go with 410's or steeper...if you drive it everyday go with 373's IMO...

Well the way I see (having been in both)...there is not a huge difference...but what does "huge" mean in terms of SOTP feel?

Usually the debate of 373 vs 410 rests with the AODE guys...With a 5-speed, and ANY HWY driving, you will love 3.73's regardless. Also keep in mind besides the gas mileage, the higher revving with the 410s on the hwy will cause your car to run hotter in the summer, esp when the temp gets 85-90.
