4.10 Gear videos in daily driving

Well, it's a toss up. If I drive normal, it's about the same as when I had stock gears. Serious. But the gears make it MUCH more fun to drive the car, so normal goes out the window. :D

I'll bet, I can't wait for my gears, hope I havent overdone it with the exhaust, I just bought 1-chambers today, so with 4.10's freeway driving might have a slight "drone" but that's ok, I think I'll like it!

Do you have any problems with traction? like if you were driving along at 25 and stomped on it, would it spin, or just go?

Only traction issues I have is when launching hard in 1st. If at 25 and romp on it, it just goes.

As the others have said, you're superfantabulously awesome for doing this and making it a sticky on top of that :nice: Now since you say you have traction issues with launching hard in 1st, do you sometimes launch hard in second to compensate for that...let's say if you have to put the shame on a ricer at a red light?

Actually, if I'm doing anything like that, I'll still launch in 1st, but only needing to give it half throttle. It will still hook and go, then once I'm underway I'll lay into it. Now, the hard shift to 2nd will warrant some wheelspin, but not enough to worry. It does for me....bald Kumhos are to blame.

And you guys are very welcome. I hope it will eliminate a lot of myths concerning 4.10's.

Thanks for taking the time and posting the vids Scotty.
I’m running 3.90 gears and was curious to see if I could tell much of a difference between the two. It’s really hard to tell any difference. Listening to your car and watching your gauges, it’s like a video from inside my car. The one thing I did notice where there was a difference is in 5th gear, I’m closer to 50mph to keep the rpms at or above 1500. I've wondered since putting 3.90s in if I should have gone 4.10s but they are awfully close it seems... for a daily driver.

Nice helpful vids thanks for posting,

real sweet ...

what I want to know if how you got to videotape while driving. . . or do I want to know?

and did you ever catch the guy that was driving?

in terms of 4.10 vs 3.73 vs 3.90, I have stock gears, and before watching these vids, I did not want to get gears, because I noticed big differences in mileage from driving 65mph to driving 80mph, which is about 1500rpm to I dunno . . . 2.2-2.5k rpm?

I just thought that gears would destroy my mileage, since most my miles are freeway. So if you are looking for some performance, but dont want to compromise drivability at all, why not get 3.73s? I dont see anyone that supports them. Im all for goin fast, but I would like to keep my mpgs

Thanks spreadman, those vids were a BIG help.

If you don't mind, ive got two more questions:
1. You mentioned the only time traction is a big issue is launching hard in first, were you talking about the track or daily driving? If your just taking off from a stop light and you accidentally give it just a bit too much gas (under 2000 RPM) would that cause the tires to break loose? Ive heard some say that any launch even slightly above idle is a problem (oh and im assuming your not on drag radials??)
2. Any issues driving in the rain?

Once again, thanks a ton for the vids.

i also had a question. . . I think I read this in MM+FF a long time ago . . . I wondered if anyone could post the RPMs when youre at 65mph in 5th gear with stock gears, and then I think its 100 rpm increases? am I wrong?

if anybody knows the numbers it would be great so we can get a comparison on paper, too!

In the rain, it's not bad, just have to be easy on it.

I'm on bald Kumho's, and they get slippery coming away from lights....especially on asphalt. But it's not bad. Once I get some new shoes it'll be all better.

Everyone says the mpg's bother them, that should have nothing to do with it. The increased constant noise levels should be the concern because that can get a little annoying. 4.10's do have a little more uumph, but if you are not a lead foot and just like to cruise in peace without feeling all wound up maybe a 3.73 will make you happier. They still get you moving quicker, and you get longer gears too.
