I just put 4.10's in my 1998 GT (I had stock 3.27's). Now keep in mind i have an AUTOMATIC. But i was wondering what the top end for you guys with 4.10s is (both auto AND manual)? 1st off, my speedo is WAY off...i'll go ABOUT 80mph, and my speedo says 120, or there abouts. I'm getting that fixed with STEEDA's gear...but anyway...What is your top end? My car seems to do about 110-120mph MAX...but i'm at like 5k or 6k redline! So obviously i can't cruise at this speed.

I'm thinking of switching my AODE to a T45 5spd this summer...would that give me some top end back? Whats the deal here? The car is MEAN AS HELL off the line now with the 4.10's but the top end....its horrible, i dont think i can beat anyone from a roll with the top end of ~110mph!

Either way you will top out at about 110-120 mph.Don't get the
speedo meter gear you will still be off.Get a chip burnt to fix your
speedo since you have a automatic or get a Speedcal for 96-98
aod tranny at Dallasmustang.com. Also the AOD to T-45 swap is
not that hard to do! Good Luck

will the 5spd swap give me some more top end?

Also, All you people with 4.10's...is your MAX 110-120mph?? I've NEVER heard anyone say that, and all you guys love your 4.10's. I think that its surprising that you don't care you can't go more than 110-120mph...........

I own a 96 Mustang GT with FRPP 4.10's I have a five speed and I topped
out at 115-120 mph and by the way I love my FRPP 4.10's best mod I ever
did I now can pass cars without downshifting and also for me fifth
gear didn't suffer.Changing tranny's I didn't think your top end will
change that much but,you should do the aod to 5 speed swap because
I belive that you have to change driveshafts and tranny mounts and I
couple thing also good luck!

I thought all pre-99's came with 2.73's stock? Wouldn't that explain the drastic change in behavior? I know my 98 had 2.73.s

I still have the gears, the stock gears are 3.27s that came out of my 98GT. I'm selling them too if someone wants them ($100 shipped)

For pre-99 GT's, there was an option to get 2.73. 305 or 3.27's. Autos however came stock with 3.27. Which is what i have. This is what research on this subject yields anyway.

94-98 Mustang GT's (pre99's) had 2.73's,3.08's,or opnional 3.27's.
My 96 GT had 3.27's so,I swapped them for FRPP 4.10's best move
I ever made in terms of performance. Most five speed's I seen had
2.73's or the opnional 3.27's but,most of the automatic's had 3.08's
or 3.27's.

just some guy:
What was your top end in the 98GT? Or did you not have 4.10s in it?

5th gear redline with the T45 / 3650 and 4.10's is around 160 mph.

115 or 120? Did you let off? I have a 96 5sp and my top speed is somewhere around 150-155. My speedo is off about 10% with the speedo gear. I can wrap the speedometer down to MPH so I'm at about 150. Fells like I still have some left but I let off. Hell when I get on the Interstate I'm at 115 before I realize it.

As for an auto I think you have a limiter that shuts down your car at 120.

with the 3.27s in the 98, i did bring the speedo to 150, i think it was off though.
with the 3.27s in this car i brought it to 149

edit:btw- the car is MUCH faster now from 80 to 140 than with 3.27s, 5th gear actually pulls.

ps. this was all done out on a remote highway in the everglades.

What size tires do you have? 4 grand with 3.27s and stock tranny equals 137 with a 245/45/r17 tire.

Your tire's diameter is 25.681 inches
At 3975 RPM in 5th gear, you're moving at 149.795 MPH

what calc were you using? i have a tr-3650, stock tire size was on their i believe. either that or 275/40-17

MY AODE 98GT with 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear (9inch front & 10.5" wide rears) goes 120mph MAX. I ordered the speedo gear from STEEDA which i hope will fix this speedo problem. But i'll be getting a 5spd asap. Not a fan of doing 120mph at like 5 grand...on its way to 6grand fast.

He's right. 4000 rpm with 3.27 gear ratio with a .68 final drive ratio and a 25.68 inch tire diameter === 137.5 mph.

Your speed is off at those high speeds matt.

150 mph === 4364 rpms with 3.27's and .68 final drive ratio (TR-3650).

Your speedo was 8% off.

with 4.10's: 159 mph @ 5800 rpm with TR-3650. <---speed at redline
