I was always able to chirp going into second with 4.10s on stock width tires, and sometimes I could chirp third (rarely) But, with the wheels and tires I have now (see sig.) Im lucky to chirp second, and I dont think third is possible. Of course, this is all going to change tomorrow when I pick my car up from the shop where it is having a 9 psi intercooled KB installed! I am actually a little scared about what this setup is going to be like (9 psi KB+4.10s= )

Let us know how the KB is with 4.10s. That's the set up I'm contemplating on my Bullitt.

When power shifting a manual car very quickly your tires will sometimes spin a bit or chirp/ bark/ whatever you want to call it. I'd imagine it would be hard to accomplish in an auto.

Nope not hard in a auto with nice tight shifts.

will you be able too chirp them YES. will it be an uncontrollable torque monster eating tires like they're ruffle potatoe chips NO.

i doubt it on a stock 98. its probably difficult to floor it just in 1st and get them to spin, unless you either have ****ty tires or are on slick surface(like my malls parking lot........) just roasting them in 2nd is doubtful.

ever driven an NPI GT? Try it sometime. My basically stock '97 with only 3.55s/PI manifold will light its tires up if I punch the gas at 3000 rpms (1st gear), and the tires scream if I do the same in 2nd gear. Just recently I matted it in 2nd at about 2000, and while it didnt spin, once I hit 4000 my car went sideways. Everyone is always knocking NPI GTs but they're not as bad as everyone makes them out to be.

My brother has an '05 GTO that he thought was really fast and scary off the line, but he screamed "cut it out, freak" when he was with me in my car and I stepped on it at about 15 MPH with my KB and 4.10's

I've managed to chirp the tires in my car into second and third. Second is easy, but I have to really be on it to chirp into third.

thats not really stock then is it? i mean stock EVERYTHING, maybe a K&N filter being an exception(as i believe they should be normal equipment).

even my buddies 95 5.0 has trouble just spinning them in 1st from a slight roll(2-3k) and going wot. and thats a "torquemaster" 5.0 as he calls it, not a anemic 4.6. i dunno, maybe you have crappy tires or somethin and thats a stock 5.0, not even a K&N drop in. oh wait, he does have flomaster 40's welded in, which gave him all of .3hp/.5tq.

hell, even if i pop the clutch in 2nd at around 3k itll chirp for a second and then just grab and take off. just punching it from a 2-3k roll doesnt get more than a slight scratch before taking off. mods in my sig. i really dont think the difference from 3.27's to 3.55's and an intake manifold are going to make you do insane burnouts from a 2nd gear roll just by going wot. popping the clutch maybe. crappy tires, probably.

alright buddy, whatever. back when i was completely stock (NPI manifold) with just 3.55s i could light up the tires in 1st when rolling at 3k, ask any of my friends. Tires were brand new. All i'm saying is the 98 isn't as weak as youre making it out to be. What the hell do i have to gain by lying to you about whether or not I can spin my tires?

"stangGT97" is right. 96-98 GTs will spin in 1st just like your 02 will, stock for stock. Funny how people always look down on the NPI cars, when there not really as bad as people make them out to be.

as long as your driving a mustang it should'nt matter what year you drive.

Their all good in my book

I can spin em' all the way through 1st and chirp 2nd pretty hard. Sometimes when I'm trying to show out I'll drop the clutch at WOT in 2nd gear rolling abour 30 mph and its spin em' pretty good and take off. When I had crappy tires I could floor it in 2nd at about 20mph and it would spin. If you nail it rolling without droping the clutch then thats a big difference. Tires do have a lot to do with it. BTW I bought my car with a drop in K&N and it would spin through 1st and sometimes chirp 2nd. Off topic some but A while back I test drove a 98 Cobra with 4.30s, K&N, and weld in flows. That thing would lay a patch when I hit second and chirp 3rd at 70 mph like my car chirps 2nd. Although it did have 235/40/18s on it....mine has 275/40/17s. Keep in mind that with stock size tires and 4.10s you will be spinning 2700 rpm at 75 mph, I'm at 2450 with my 3.73s.

If you know how to shift, you can easily chirp 2nd and 3rd. My 4 cylinder Chevy Beretta could chirp 3rd occasionally, 2nd every time.

I went almost completely sideways yesterday on the way home from a buddies house shifting in to 2nd at close to the redline. In 1st, traction from 3k-redline is non existant. 3rd gear lays a rubber patch every time, easily. That's with 3.73's.

Ive driven many a 4 banger that could chirp second. But with 4.10's in the '00 GT I am chirping third whenever I want with 285/40's in back. Tho the stock '85 5.0 I recently picked up gets sideways whenever you punch it coming out of a turn. My 00 GT is faster, corners better, and stops alot better, but for some reason the 210,000 mile 85 T-Top is just fun to drive.

My auto. 03 GT has 4.10's, a tune, and exhaust. 1st gear is useless, 1-2 shift sends my rear sliding out, and can chirp 2-3 sometimes. The rears are only 245/45/17. If I floor it from 20mph (in drive), it will spin and send the rear sliding a little bit. This is with new tires as well. Gonna eventually get bigger ones though.

On my olld 97 GT w/ it stock except 4.10 gears and exhaust, It spun first chirped 2nd and 3rd.. NO problem at all... With the PI head swap it spun 1st and 2nd and chirped 3rd..

With my current 96 GTS and the little roots blower (5psi) with 4.10's it spins 1st and 2nd and occassionaly chirps 3rd.

Get em.. you'll love them!

Got the car back the other day, and got it on the Dyno today. Car made 379 HP and 370 Ft-lbs. I can say that 1st gear is totally useless, second also will spin like crazy and if I punch it in 3rd I get wheel hop. The car is a lot more fun now that it has the blower. We will see how long it lasts. I have been told by many people to trust the Kenne Bell tune and not muck around with it. I cant believe how easily it spins the tires in first and second (I have some pretty big meats out back) Even rolling off the line and then punching it the tires instantly break loose.

I've been told I chirp 4th at the track. I can't tell since I'm concentrating on shifts. I don't really try it on the road...never think about it I guess. I know I can get sideways in second...have the marks in front of my house to prove it. Fun on New Years Eve.
