After damn near a full year of having the parts to install, I finally got my rear end installed. Some of you preachers of the slow break-in method got your wish. It was raining when I picked the car up so I couldn't beat on it yet. There's always tomorrow. I'll report back.

Don't fear the gear bishes!:SNSign:

I have buddys who have 4:10s in their old school camaros and chevelles, they say it is a drag racing gear. What rpm does a 4:10 gear turn on the highway at 75-80mph?

I was thinking 3:73s, since it is close, but not as hardcore.

Thats the thing old school guys say its a drag racing gear because their pushrod motors dont rev like our 4.6 motors do...listen to the guys on here and get the 4:10s im telling you they are the best gear for a GT hands down....dont waste your hard earned money on 3:73s, 3:90s, whatever...get the 4:10s.
And my friends auto GT with 4:10s was going 2400 at 75 MPH last night...I dont know if its any lower with a 5-speed.

I could handle 2,750-2,800 rpm MAX, but 3k is a little scary for me, my Nissan V6 runs 3,000rpm at 75 mph, but I think it can handle it a little better. The gas difference might be the deal crusher.

With 4:10s does it just get off the line quicker? and not effect the top end at all?

hell yes it comes off the line quicker...that is if you arent spinning your ass off...with tires you come off the line a lot harder and the car doesnt seem like such a slug....we drove last night to race a a few cars and the gas mileage was almost the same as the other night since we recorded the mileage before the gears went in...barely any difference and we did a lot of highway driving at that.
Im not sure about the top end but people say 5th gear pulls some more since you will be in the powerband quicker.
Id get the 4:10s...if you are worried that much about gas get an econobox

haha, they are very, very tempting. Especially since I already have an econobox.

I will have to read up more and get some exact specs before doing it.

Seriously the more you are going to be reading the more people will tell you to get the 4:10s...they are a great gear and I would not put anything less in a 2v car....in my friend auto it feels like a completely different car now...before 2nd gear was like a buick shifting now it goes sideways with some tire spin I love it

Yeah, My daily driver tachs 3000 at 70mph in 5th stock, so I'm used to higher gearing.

at 3k in a 5-speed with 4.10s you're right around 80, maybe a little faster. at 70-75 you're looking at 2300-2500 rpms.

thats fine I cruise at 60 MPH everywhere on the highway unless the speed limit gets raised to 65 in certain places around...dont want any tickets since a shiny mustang will be getting pulled over before a crazy soccer mom in a dodge caravan going 90 + MPH

Which one is it?

What are the down sides to the 4:10s, besides higher rpm on the freeway? Does it still pull all around? what will it knock off in the 1/4?

Tire, Gear & Speed/RPM Calculator
Tire dimensions: 245/45/17
Gears: 4.10
Select your transmission: TR-3650 (2001.5+ GT, 2001 Cobra)
Calculate RPM at 85 MPH in 5th gear

At 85 MPH in 5th gear, your motor is turning at 2,828.1 RPM

Ok, I just beat on it a bit now that it's dry outside.

It is a beast now. 2nd gear damn near feels like 1st gear now. 1st is shorter but not so much that it's annoying yet. 5th gear is alive!!! Even with no cats and dronemasters, the highway at 70-80mph is not so bad as others make it. In fact, 70mph is better now since it's out of the drone zone. I'm just waiting on my XCal2 to arrive so I can correct the speedo and turn of the MIL that's been on forever.

Shoutout to Keith at BigShotDyno in Ohio for the install
