I had my 4.30 gears installed and they whining like a $#*&%, they are FRPP/Motive gear and the installer has done my last 6 gear changes on all my cars with any whining at all. He thinks since they are motive gears box in FRPP that motive cut on the teeth might have a whine to them. The pattern looked good when they were installing them. Any buddy else havng this issue with 4.30 gears?

I remember some jack-ass trying to make an ass out of me recently when I said Motive makes FRPP gear sets.

Gear whine sucks man, my FRPP, er...Motive, er.....????? have whined since day 1, but that was all install, not the gears. What can I expect for $50 worth of labor? Its annoying, but the cars had them in for 8 months and unfotunately, Im used to it.

Kurt2002, do you have any soundclips of your exhaust? Ive been thinking about switching to an H-pipe, but Im worried about getting that machine gun or blatty sound with my bassani c/b. How's it sound?

personally i have only installed FRPP gears and have had no whine out any of them yet but if everything looked good and it still whined might be the cut on the gears

I know the install was done right, maybe we will change the pattern a little to see if that helps

My gear change whined like a sick dog, so I had the gears re-installed after 400 miles on them. NO wear pattern since I had them hardened. Now there is no whine what so ever, it all about backlash....

did you actually verify the backlash and wear pattern with you own eye's?

the backlash I do belive is the same for all gear sets. .008-.012 I do belive. you can look at fordracingparts they have some install sheets you can download.

http://www.fordracingparts.com/download/instructionsheets/FordInstShtRing-And-Pinion.pdf

now are these really FRPP gears? did they come in a FRPP box or a motive box? I don't remeber my FRPP gears saying motive on them at all. I have heard they are made by motive though but I don't remeber a reference to motive in the packaging at all.

I have used motive gears on other rigs and they came in motive packageing and had center distance on the pinion. the FRPP gears I just put in my stang were different in that aspect. there was not center distance I just re-used the factory pinion shim and crossed my fingers. the setup was right on though.

about 90-95% of the time you will be able to re-use the factory shim on the pinion, last on i recently installed i had to use a different shim. But its been 1 out of a few and the backlash is .008-.015 best setting is .010-.012

I was told by Ford that Motive is making there 4.30 gears and ford is boxing them in there boxes. It looks identical to Motive lightweight gears. No ford stamping anywhere like my 3.73 and 4.10 gear had.

thanks for the info
