I went from 3.31s to 4.10s in my '06 automatic. I paid $550 for parts and labor at a very reputable Mustang tuner shop. I have over 5000 miles now with them installed and have had absolutely no whine or any other gear realted issues. Those along with the other mods in my sig, I have to baby it from a dead stop if I don't want to spin at all. I believe the biggest factors in that are the 4.10s with the tune that eliminated the throttle hang. As far as MPG goes, I get around 18-20 with my "normal" driving and got 23.8 by accelerating easily and doing no more than 5 over the posted speed limit for a full tank coming back from PA a few weeks ago. I can't/won't complain at all as far as MPG or driveablity is concerned with my 4.10s.

Break-in should not be needed if the gears are setup properly. I used to setup many rears with 4:11 to 5:38 gears (Chevys) for the strip and after installation, went right out in my drag car and turned some awesome times. Believe me, a gear change does wonders for ANY car, even on the street.
