has anyone done a engine swap from 96'-98' to a 4.6 3v? or even a 4.6 PI 2v to 4.6 3v?

i know bill fisher has done the 4.6 2v to 5.4 3v swap. i was just wondering if anyone swapped in a new 4.6 3v to freshen up a dying engine? i did a search and it i couldnt see anyone that did this.

so basically i was looking for whats involved? cost? parts? pieces? time?

do i still have do deal with VCT issues?
what about converting the throttle to mechanical?
what do i do with the fuel system (returnless vs return)?
what are my exhaust options? custom headers?

I'm sure if that would be a good swap if it is feasable. I'm sure it would require a new computer. Still not sure how the VCT issues would be handled either. Seems like it would be a real PIA mod though certainly rewarding if it gets pulled off. With the aftermarket finally catching on with the Mod engines, you might still come off better with some P&P'd heads from Patriot or Modular Powerhouse.

ok so $14k. what did you base that number on?

engine - $3,300 + shipping (karkraft)
clutch/flywheel - $400
custom headers - $1000
custom tune - $
misc piping - $
misc parts - $
front access - $

so lets say about $2k for the blank items. that leaves $8k remaining? where am i spending it?

i mean why bother mod'g a car at all just go buy a new one. i could get a 99'gt with low miles for $6k - $7k why not just buy another car instead of wasting time with this one? why bother caring for and wanting the best for the things you have. let's all just throw it all away and start over. ok im in a bad mood. i apologize for the rant.

anyone with helpful facts please reply and not off the wall opinions based on laziness and apathy.

edbo - thanks, i thought of that. but with my still stock motor and it needing new heads i am faced with the decision to head swap on a motor with 140k and then plan on a motor swap in the next couple of years or go ahead and swap to a fresh motor now and then do things like heads/intake/headers (im not loosing anything because i havent changed those with my present setup) so i was looking to go down either the path of the 4.6 pi engine swap, the 4.6 3v or maybe my last choice on the list was a 5.4 setup, either 3v or 4v depending which was easier and could give me the most of what i was looking for. and i mean easier in terms of i dont have a lot of time to be developing a building a engine program. my car is my daily driver and i need to get it up and running again and soon.

Do some damn searching, this question arises every damn week. Quit whining.

As I just said, do some research. You need all the wiring, all the accessories, fly-by-wire throttle control, the computer/tune. If you did buy a USED engine from karkraft would you trust it? Do you have any reliability from them?

Don't forget the engine mounts are totally different too. I think there is some after markter comapny dealing with that though. And yeah, if your going to get the used engine just rip it down and turn it into a fresh stroker or something cool like that. Dunno about the computer contols though, at this point in time it sounds like a real PITA.
