I agree with all you guys, but the only thing i know is the 4.6 has a stronger block. The 5.0 block is only rated at 400hp and the 4.6 is rated at damn near 1000hp. So although it cost more to do stuff to it. You have alot of room to play.

Which now that i'm thinking about it, by the time we 5.0'ers buy a DART,Man of War or R302 block with all forged internals, the cost may be the same.

But I'm with you guys I Love my 5.0.... push rod all the way...

"My g/f's 98 AUTOMATIC GT is running 14.8's with just pro-dumps and a PI intake. That's a stock tranny, with stock gears out back."

Are we comparing trans's or engines though? May be a better or upgraded trans.

"The 5.0 block is only rated at 400hp and the 4.6 is rated at damn near 1000hp"

I hope that is the same rating system they used to fabricate those HP ratings. WTH is the difference to constitute 600HP difference? Is it the connecting bolts or the BLOCK itself? If that is true, I shoulda had a 4.6!

No, the car is bone stock, minus the pro-dumps and intake. Tranny and rear-end has never been touched. That was with her driving too. She pulled a 2.2 60', so with a little more practice, or a different driver, I know the car could run even quicker. But regardless, an auto 5.0 with similar mods will probably run about the same as that, so while they're not the fastest mustangs, you can't knock even the 96-98 4.6's.

That's the block right? No way a stock bottom end (on 5.0 or 4.6) will handle 1000 hp.

I know, not what I meant. Let me clarify...I am suggesting that that year STOCK trans was upgraded or IMPROVED from the 5.0 trans from the factory.. I don't know, just suggesting considering how slow the 5.0 autos are on average stock. Theres a few guys here a full second slower than what your friend is getting in the quarter.

That can depend on driver/gears (273's or 308's)/condition of car and weight.

I think its just the different design in the engine. Maybe just OHC motors can handle more power...not necessarily the rotating assembly but the block itself cause the way the engine operates doesnt put as much stress on it? I have no idea...just a stab in the dark.

I'm not sure the 4.6L blocks can reach 1000hp. I'm pretty sure that is inaccurate. I believe it closer to the 600hp range. Now the 03/04 Cobra bottomend has more potential than that with the stock rotating assembly I believe. ARP bolts, forged pieces...it all adds up to a nice power supporter
