some of ya know im lookin for the right 01+ GT. i'm also looking for a new job in the houston area. that means traffic and i was wondering about the mileage of 01+ GT 5spds in traffic and highway compared to a 3.0 ranger 5spd. im pretty sure the fact that most of my commute will be highway travel that i'll actually spend less money on gas going to a GT. what do you guys think?

Don't buy a Mustang if you are concerned about gas mileage. I typically go through a tank every couple hundred miles and have to fill once a week with what I'd consider light driving (2000 with 50k miles). I get around 12 to 14 mpg city. I'm sure if you drive like Grandma Peterson you can do better, perhaps low 20's. I think it defeats the purpose of a Mustang if you have to baby it to conserve gas. You really might have more fun if you got something with a hot 4 banger.

A- its better mileage than a ranger
B- compared to other cars in its performance range it gets pretty good mileage
C- i'm gonna get something newer so it might as well be something more fun than a ranger.
D- i have a 4 banger, it isn't the daily driver lol

On the highway, if i toss it in 5th and just cruise (in other words no rolling on the gas to pass slow cars) i can get 26-27MPG

I average around 19-21 in mixed driving

You answered your own question. If you have another car to drive already, you can just drive your GT when the mood hits you. That's what I do with my Mach. My '05 Focus gets alot of the DD duties. But when I want to drive my Mach, I've got a grin from ear to ear.

well, if my other car wasn't 16 years old and ridiculously modified i'd b fine with driving it every day but thats kinda why have another car. its the DD that needs replacing, hence the "why not get something fun" that i can have a good time in when im not driving my 240

With the mods in my sig, I will average about 25-26 MPG on the highway in 5th with mixed highway driving at about 75-80 MPH. In town with some stop and go traffic, I will get around 19-20 MPG. That's with a relatively aggressive tune as well.

I got like 22 mixed and 26-27 highway on my old pretty much stock 2004 GT 5 speed

I got 20 mixed and 25 highway in my old pi swapped, bolted, and 3.90 geared 98 GT 5 speed

I get like 18 mixed and 22 highway on my basically stock 2001 GT auto.

Autos are way worse on gas.

Like he said, I have a 4.10'ed '01 gt with 90% city driving
with about 15mpg average. If you factor in a little highway
driving, then you're looking at about 190-220 miles per tank.
