Is it just me or is this thing a pain in the ass?

Removal is normal but putting it back in is like brain surgery....

Any mod or replacement item that works without as much difficulty?

yeah, it's recommended that you have 3 people helping! So stupid that a dip stick can cause so much trouble.

When the dipstick no longer goes in straight, just twist the dipstick left or right and it should slide right down. Surgery done.

we're talking about putting the tube back in the block, are you thinking about just putting it back in once you check the oil?

Might be, or it's a '97 thing; my friends '97 Cobra has the cable style.
