40 years!

No I am not that old (yet). But as I sit here at 5 AM studying and watching my favorite car movie of all time it occurs to me. This is the 40th anniversary of the movie BULLITT!! This is by far the best car chase scene ever laid down on film. If you haven't seen it shame on you. In my opinion it should be a prerequisite for Mustang ownership. So the next time you ****** second in your beloved ponycar, say a kind word or two for Steve McQueen and what is in my opinion the sweetest sounding Mustang ever.

Bullitt-awesome, and 40 ain't that old (convincing my41yr old self). Read an article on movie hot rods in, like, Car Craft, some 20 years ago. The car guys recorded Steve on Riverside Speedway to get the sound right with his double clutching, and dubbed it over. And, I didn't know this, but then watched my copy to see. They had to hanicap the Charger with the skinniest tires they could find, and dial up the Mustang exhaust and suspension, cuz the Charger would blow the Mustang into the weeds whenever they hit a straightaway! Damn Mopars!

Yeah and I seem to remember hearing something about McQueen getting in some serious hot water with the SF mayor over the chase scene. Evidently the mayor was told that the filming would occur with little or no interruption to traffic flow and it would all be safe. It seems he had a cow when he saw the finished product.
