400+rwhp & street tires

2003 automatic Mustang GT - 100% street car

very near future plans for a 9#+ KB

hopefully will be pushing over 400rwhp

I was thinking about purchasing Nittos for the street.

I'm torn between a 17x9 and 17x10.5 rim

I was going to put a DR out back, 315 on a 10.5
but,
I seen that Nitto makes a 275 DR

besides the width, the obvious...

do you think I'd be fine w/275s on a 9" rims all the way around? instead of sticking a 315 on a 10.5 in the rear?

stricktly performance. all street. no track...

Get the 10.5 rims and get some BFG Dr's in 315. They are simply amazing. And get 265's up front that is plenty

....my 2cents

Drag radials are not meant for the street. New the tread is 6/32 of an inch. The BFG's will be slicks after the 5th burn out and you will have cords showing at around 8-10k miles. They are dangerous in the rain becuase...guess what...they are "drag radials aka slicks"

I had a set...they hook like they are made out of fly paper. Each time I would shift at WOT, I could hear my clutch begging for mercy.

I like the deep dish look, go with the 10.5"rims....I just purchased the Sumitomo 315x35x17 for the rear only $119 ea.

nittos here, they only hook well on heated streets... i dont really drive teh stang in the rain, but the 1 time i did, i took it easy, and didnt have a problem

Ditto for the Nittos I can't even get them to spin on a nice hot sunny day I didn't have any problems in the rain with them either.

I say Nittos, the 17x 10.5 looks kinda silly in the pics I've seen and "looks" like that big of a wheel may rub.

Plus w/ a 17x9 wheel tire combo you'll be able to rotate your tires increasing life span.

Maybe someone could post pics of the 17x10.5 and you'll see what I'm talking about

rotate your tires? he would need to have 4 drag radials then.. i do not think he should run drag radials on the frt..

I have an '02, GT, Vert, Auto, with a KB blower pushing 10lbs of boost and stock tires. Believe me when I say, You'll need something better. I'm wrestling with the same problem, 9" or 10.5". Right now I'm leaning towards the 9". Don't know if I want 17' or 18". I think I want the 17" to keep a little higher sidewall and a little better ride on the street.

I dont understand how you guys are getting away with 400+ horse without problem?

I was under the impression, after the post I had going a while back, that these modular motors are not too safe past 400?
thats roughly 525 horse (being an automatic with stock converter)

They're not. They probably didn't get tuned on a load dyno and if they are they are living very dangerous or have a built short block.

ha! I'm confused even more!

should I grab the 10.5 in the rear?

or go w/a 9 in the rear?

If I put a 275 Nitto DR out back, would the car still hook up ok w/a KB 9-10#?

Or, can I stick the 315 Nitto DR on the 9" rim?

I'm still confused!!! LOL

400hp at the rear is the "point of no return" if you will. not 400 flywheel hp.

I agree 100% with every last thing you said. Get the sumitomo street tire in a 315. Then just buy your self a good set of slicks and put them on a 15 inch rim. When you go to the track put the slicks on. I have BFG DR's as a DD and they will wear extremely quick. I am definitely getting street tires next, probably sumitomos.

I love my 10.5x 17 black deep dish's. I get soo many compliments, and the dont rub at all. Get them, trust me!

My car will probably see the track once a year, if I'm lucky...

Thats why I'm looking for a good street tire...
