410 gear install how much $

my buddy just had 3:73's put in his car for $250

I paid $350 for the installation of the gears, replacement of all rear end bearings, and to have the limited slip rebuilt.

That price does not include parts.

Maybe you should ask a service writer.... that is unless you are one. I work at a ford dealership myself but ended up having an outside shop do it for me for $300ish. Only bad part about working at a dealership is they put employee cars on the back burner while they work on other cars.

I paid $300

I paid $175 but it was many years ago.

I paid $125 at a shop and can get Houston area cars done for $150.

Gave a friend of a friend $250

Full rebuild of what gears? Might want to look into getting lower gears while you are at it.

I charge 200, last time I did um for a set of pony wheels w/ good tires

yea the Stealership will rape you on anything and everything they can....just like on buying a new car.....or a spare key and charge $125 to "program" it

I am probably going to be installing gears in my car this summer...I have never done it but my dad said he would help me...of course I dont think he has installed a set in about 30 years lol.

Not too much has changed in the the past 30 yrs as far and gears in the rear end. Still the same concept. Good luck though. You still gotta know what you are doing to get it perfectly aligned.

Yeah because ford gives the dealer the cars for free and the mean dealer charges you for it..

Ok being serious dealers really don't make a ton on new car sales if the customer is smart. The real money in sales is made on add on's, used cars and on trade in's if they bought it for a cheap price and can whole sale it quick for a profit.


I will agree 125 to program a key is overboard. we get 45 to program a key, if the customer has two working keys we don't charge to program it.


If the customer has a problem paying the 45 I suggest buying their own IDS and program as many keys as you want..

All you need is a laptop with XP pro, a VCM for 2k and the software license I think is 400 a year and you can start your own key programming business

I think the 45 we charge is fair because

1. it ties up one of our IDS for at least 15 minutes

2. they have to pay either me or another tech to do it and like most people when I go to work I expect to be paid and as I tell my dispatcher I don't do come here to make friends and the bank won't except " well I hooked this customer up and did free work so I can't pay my mortgage this month"

When I can exchange good will free work for food and other goods and pay my bills with it I will consider doing free work, until then somebody is paying me.

LOL I have had a few customers tell me " well I paid ford 30k for this ( insert POS here) so you should do this for me for free" Well I got a whopping 0 dollars of that so when henry starts cutting me in on the profits I will start caring about how much he/she paid

very very few people take the time to do it properly. I have only seen a few myself. 99 percent do the reuse the old shims and pray method. Sometimes you can get away with that and I did it on my own car once and it was ok for awhile but then started getting a bit of tip in noise.. I really don't feel comfortable doing that to a customers car.

going with 4.10's. my rear wheel bearing went out so i just said fug it, plus i know the guy.

$300 from the Ford dealer just to put gears in. That's labor and fluids only. The second time they touched it a year later it was $350. They charged me $18 in "shop materials" the first time and $27 the second time. I guess next time I'll buy them a whole roll of paper towels, RTV and some hand soap for about $5 and good...
