I took my "official" 351windsor "Mexican" block down to the shop Monday. He looked it over and said it was a solid block and was the very first 351w Mexican he has ever seen or heard of (he's been doing engine work for 30+ years).

He's going to hot tank, magnaflux, new freeze plugs, new cam bearings, and bored .030, and notch the piston walls for a stroker.

Now, i'm not sure what size of a dish that I will need, but I do want the compression below 11:1, which can be done fairly easily. Someone that knows more than me (I don't know much) please chime in if you see something that could possibly be wrong. I've done a lot of research, and so far here is what i've decided upon.

Forged Crank with a 4.100" stroke.
Forged I-beam rods 6.200" long with 7/16" ARP bolts
Probe Forged dish top pistons
Total seal max moly ring set
Clevite H-Series main and rod bearings

That is what will be going on order here very soon if everything checks, and double checks out okay.

On the heads, i'm thinking about going with the AFR 225's or maybe the AFR205's with eh 58cc combustion chambers. I'm leaning toward the AFR225's as this car will be driven on the street weekends and select days only.

What do you think about this beast in the making?

A big dish, most normal flat tops will make over 12.5:1 with a 58cc head.

And please dont use thous Total Seal rings...there more trouble than there worth.

I like the AFR 225,thats a good choise.

What cam you looking at and intake and headers?

Also,if you plan on a power adder,get some H-Beams.

Did you ever get pics of that block? I would like to say that I have seen (pics) of a Mexican 351w.

I have a compression ratio calculator that I created in excel. Not sure how to post it here, but feel free to pm me if you would like me to email it. There are many such calculators on the web though. Google will pay off if you can sift through the extra stuff.

If your block is 9.500 the pistons are .020" in the hole and SRP makes 19cc dish which comes out like this.

Bore Size: 4.030
Gasket Bore: 4.100
Piston Top Land Dia: 3.995
Stroke: 4.100
Connecting Rod Length 6.200
Compression Height: 1.230
Deck Height: 9.500
Ring to Top of Piston 0.250
Gasket Thickness: 0.040
Valve Notches Volume: 19.00
Dome Volume: 0.00
Volume Head: 58.00
-------------------------------------
:COMPRESSION RATIO: 10.445
-------------------------------------

calculation variables:

Piston to Deck: 0.020
Crank Throw: 2.050
Vol. Above Top Ring: 0.90 cc
Piston to Dec Vol.: 4.18 cc
Gasket Volume: 8.65 cc
Volume Clearance: 90.74 cc
Cylinder Volume: 857.00 cc
CID: 418.218

IF you deck the block to "0" it comes out like this

Bore Size: 4.030
Gasket Bore: 4.100
Piston Top Land Dia: 3.995
Stroke: 4.100
Connecting Rod Length 6.200
Compression Height: 1.230
Deck Height: 9.480
Ring to Top of Piston 0.250
Gasket Thickness: 0.040
Valve Notches Volume: 19.00
Dome Volume: 0.00
Volume Head: 58.00
-------------------------------------
:COMPRESSION RATIO: 10.901
-------------------------------------

calculation variables:

Piston to Deck: 0.000
Crank Throw: 2.050
Vol. Above Top Ring: 0.90 cc
Piston to Dec Vol.: 0.00 cc
Gasket Volume: 8.65 cc
Volume Clearance: 86.56 cc
Cylinder Volume: 857.00 cc
CID: 418.218

As far as the rings go as long as they are not the GAPLESS Style Total Seals they are fine, they carry some very nice rings convential style file to fit

So, with the parts I listed, I should be perfectly fine? What is everones take on the Edlebrock heads? I've heard that they are a great head out of the box and can be had for $500 cheaper than the AFR's? The Edelbrock heads are 60cc combustion chambers.

The Vic Jr do not compare to a AFR out of the box, the 205 or 225 will walk all over them. To acheive those types of numbers and power the Vic Jrs will need a lot of work.

Engine Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
