Hello everyone !
I'm getting ready to rebuild my 99-04 Mustangs. I want a daily driver with forged internals, so I can spray some NOS on occasion.
I want to keep the reliablity and gas milage of the 3.8L, but being able to press the "Go-Baby-Go" button once in a while would be cool. I contacted Wiseco and custom pistons are $250-$275 each. Then the 351W rods are unknown price at this time. Mainly because I'm not sure what length I need to order. I've also read comments on piston position for naturally aspirated use and NOS. Something about tolerances and combustion chamber heat. Anyway, I don't know what to do. Seems like the easiest way would be to just put Super Coupe internals, but I'm not exactly sure if I can run SC pistons with NA and NOS. The Wiseco off the shelf replacement pistons are still available in .020 over and are advertised as 9:1 compression. The .030 over pistons seem to be no longer available. I need help guys. Thanks in advance !

Where did you get the idea that you can only spray nitrous over forged pistons?

Look at Hypereutectic pistons. They're strong and make a [much] better ring seal against the cylinder walls.

You should be talking all of this over with the machinist that is going to prep the block for you.

And before all the "OMG you must have forged pistons" crowd comes in, my Caddy makes 650 crank HP on the stock Hyper pistons.

Let's do the math:

650 HP / 8 = 81.25 HP per cylinder

6 cylinders x 81.25 = 487.5 HP.

So, we at least know you're safe until then so long as your tune and install isn't performed by a half-wit.

Again though... Check with your machinist.
