What do you guys think about putting this into a 99-04 stang? What all would need to be done? Would it even fit? I just am tired of my pathetic 4.6 and I like the idea of a bad a## engine. Plus it would be fun to put a blower on it later on.....but with 500+ hp why would I need to? Anyway just wanting to know what you guys thought?

People have stuffed 5.4s (351s) into these cars. IMO, a 427 is overkill.

Overkill??? Is there such a thing when it comes to power? Maybe so but 500hp doesn't come close to being classified as overkill IMO. I just don't see the point in finding a 5.4 navi engine and having to modify so much stuff when I could get a 427 engine that has WAY more potential and more power. Surely someone has done this before. It just seems perfect to me. It's fuel injected so no old school carbs, 500hp without a blower so there is no added stress on the motor from boost (although I'd probably still add some later ) and it is different from everybody elses.

all you need is money and a k-member.
427 makes 500hp by accident.
good luck.
talk is cheap.

5.4's are not 351's, they are 331's.

a 427 should fit without much hassle. a stock 4.6L is about the same size as a 460.

now if you want cool and different, go with a FE 427 side oiler.

they wil fit also.

i never hear of anyone putting an FE motor in these. they make as much power as anything you will see today.

390 rated at 315hp gross
428 rated at 335hp gross
427 rated from 427 hp to 550 hp gross.

they are boat anchors though. they weigh even more than my 700+ lb 5.4 3v.

Sorry, not to pizz on the parade, but as Bill said, talk is cheap...will this guy ever actually go this route?
More realistic is simply putting a 03-04 Cobra motor in - easily get the same power.
If you truly have money to burn and want an exotic setup, get the 5.0 Cammer crate motor from FRPP.
Please let us know what you actually decide on and do.

5.4s are 331 CI 5.7s are 350s.....oh DBMUSTANG beat me to it

To the original poster: If you actually HAVE the motor already, then you're off to a better start. I have an old 429 motor from one of my father's old T-birds from back in the late 60s, and as bad as i wanted to put it in a retro mustang, I just can't afford it at the time.

If you dont even HAVE the motor already.....i would consider doing something else. Something cheaper and something that will have more parts available for it. Like say a 5.4L DOHC Crate motor from VT Engines or something

a 5.4 dohc is harder than you can imagine to get in. all it takes is an expert and a lot of money, or a lot of time and a lot of money. not to discourage anyone, but it's a project many a good mustang mechanic has tried and ended up selling the motor in the end. e-bay is littered withthe remains of 5.4 dohc projects. nuff said.

not to mention a navi only makes 260fwhp just like the 4.6 2v, regardless of the advertised power.

to get real power it takes thousands. i mean thousands. i had a navi motor owner bragging about his 600rwhp blown navi, until i reminded him that cammed 4.6 3v's(forged) make more power with a blower.

Slap a power adder on your 4.6 and that should change your idea of "pathetic"...realistically like people have said, just find a 4.6 4V Cobra motor and a blower and that should satisfy your power crave just fine. Unless you really want something unique, there is no need to have a 427 when you can find other motors that will produce the numbers you want. The 4.6 and 5.4 motors love power adders.
