43,000 for a 2005 GT conv...

I just went a local Ford Dealer and saw a gorgeous red 2005 GT conv.. I looked at the price: $33,300. I was thinking "thats not bad for the conv." However I noticed to the left of the price was an "Adjusted Market Price $45,300"



Unbelievable. Sitting right next to it was a used 2003 Cobra Conv with 12k miles for 28k...

Affordable.. RIGHT...

Sounds like your local dealer must really believe that they're the only game in town.

over $10k markup? This crap is getting rediculous. I really don't think Ford should allow dealers to do this. It makes Ford look bad.

Ya a guy that may dad works with paid 40k for a convertable gt...
What's funny is he thought thats what they cost and doesn't even know that was a major mark up

Yesterday I went over to get some shoulder pads for the seatbelts at Elk Grove Ford. I went to look at the convertible GTs they had a few but the prices were 37 grand and some change. UNBELIEVABLE. Some of these dealers are out of control.

That is way out of control even with the current demand. You will be hard pressed to find one for sticker. If you can get it at sticker, then get it or wait until the 06. This is a extremely hot car right now and with summer approaching, its even hotter.

Every manufacuture has had a car at one time or another that had a high demand. The Miata, PT Cruiser and others have had thousands added to them at the beginning. It's all about supply and demand. The dealers love it when a hot seller comes out, its easy cash for them.

It is really crazy how much dealers are marking up the price on them! When do you all think the prices will actually start to come down a good bit? 3 months? 6 months?

I hope soon, cause I was planning on getting one within a couple months but it seems I may have to wait even longer
Plus my car is having all sorts of problems so I need to get rid of it soon before it drains me of all my money lol

It's a shame that shortsighted dealers are gouging GT buyers, but I can't work up a lot of sympathy for someone who either has more $ than brains or they are too lazy to do 5 minutes of research on the car.

I had a 2003 Mach 1. Car stickered for $29,000. Dealer asked me $33,000. I refuse to pay more than sticker. A year later he still had the same car and I got it for $24,000 including tax.
Pay over sticker and you will be killed later on resale value. Talk about getting upside down on a loan if you borrow for the car. All of us need to refuse to pay more than sticker. If we do that, dealers will have no choice than to sell for sticker and "only" make that much money.
Ford and all other dealers get bad reps for putting it to their customers. Ford is in a bad financial shape now and doesn't need this garbage. The company's bonds are now rated as junk.
What happened to the days of building all that buyers wanted at a reasonable price rather than sticking it to the customer?

Why? If they can find people who will pay it, more power to them.

Being able to haggle, or "horse trade", can go either way. Up or down in price. That is just the way it works.

However, I certainly like having the option to haggle. Much, much better than to have the Saturn-like "pay sticker" only fixed price policy.

I got my 05 vert for about $500 under sticker.

unfortunatley it is in the shop now for a new top

I paid $750 over INVOICE for my 05 GT Vert. Still have to pinch myself to make me believe it. Ordered on Jan 5 and took delievery 7 weeks later. I am so glad it is over for me!! I don't think I would ever have one if I had to go thru what the dealers are trying to pull these days. I am sort of surprised since I thought the demand and supply would have come closer together with time but it seems lately to have been getting worse.

Anyone wanting an 05 Vert or Coupe and Longview Texas is not too far to come let me know and I will hook you up with my dealer. He said when I took delivery that he could not do my deal again but he thought he could get a few hundred below sticker..........

If the dealer can find someone to pay $10,000 above MSRP, then all the power to him. But he better sell it quick. Summer is here and anyone who wants a vert will want it now. This dealer has a short-time frame to work with. I bet if he doesn't sell within a month, that price tag will be dropping from $43,000 to $33,000. If he doesn't sell by August, someone will be paying $29,000 or $30,000 for an 05 GT vert.

I paid MSRP for my GT vert here in SoCal and frankly, it hurt my pride a little. My GT cost $33650 with 5-speed, IUP, SAB, Shaker 1000 and upgraded wheels + TTL. I really didn't want the Shaker 1000 but it obviously wasn't a deal breaker.

I called the dealer who had the stock late on the next to last business day in April. Told them I'd pay MSRP and not a $ more. The Sales Manager said come on down. Drove the car, wrote the check...end of story. The SM told me that he wanted to make his month and that I was the first person they've sold a GT to without a markup. All of their GTs had a 5k markup on the window. They had another Satin Silver GT vert (deluxe) with auto. I have to say that the cloth seats are pretty weak and you should definitely opt for the premium package if you can afford it. The leather seats are better than in previous Mustangs but their still not up to snuff with the likes of BMW, Audi, Lexus, etc.

I was ranting for a long time about the lunacy of the market before I realized there are lots of cars that sell for MSRP or very close to MSRP because of reputation, supply and demand.

I still wouldn't pay a markup though.

I agree. Unless you're willing to pay their price (Why, I don't understand), or your car's on life support and you REALLY need another car, I can't see paying MSRP on these cars. Mustangs are not rare cars. They're going to have over 150k out on the road by model yrs. end. If you have the adv. of maintaining patience, you will then have the adv. over the dealer. Only drawback is your choice of colors will be limited by then. I personally don't buy a car on color alone. I have my preferences, but I'm pretty easy going on that.

There won't be 150,000 GTs on the road and that's what most people on this board are referring to. You can get a V6 for less than sticker here in SoCal without even trying hard. A GT, well, that's another story.

Well if you won't pay MSRP, make sure you don't live in Southern California then, because you won't be getting a GT. Unless you order under a plan and wait 500 years.

To hagle or to own, that is the question. Again, opportunity cost and gap insurance. The apex of supply and demand in an instanteneous gratification society.
