I'm still in the process of my teardown and rebuild...

thank the Lord I finally got the transmission and starter bolts out yesterday...what a task!

Anyway...I was reading in the Haynes manual that when you pull the engine you can leave the A/C compressor, and PS pump intact, but just pushed off to the side...I Have the Compressor off the engine and moved out of the way but the last bolt for the PS pump is like under what looks like a high pressure fitting...what gives? How do I get that out w/out draining everything out of the PS?

If you take the other three out, you can keep loosening that with a normal open-end wrench and as you loosen, let the PS pump fall away from the block. Then you can hang the pump aside (I assume you want to do this to get the timing chain covers off or something similar. Just leave the bolt in the pump hole. Otherwise remove the line, for better access but you will probably want to replace the little seal that is in there if you do to avoid a leak.

awesome, thanks bob...

funny thing...As I was laying under the car with my feet towards the rear of the car looking up at the bottom of the starter yesterday, trying to get that 3rd bolt - I kept repeating your words from another post that I found about getting that bolt out..."30 second job...30 second job" The sucky part is, I have long tube headers that interfered w/ it alot...so it took me about 2 hours on that bolt.

I ended up finally working the extension/socket onto the bolt...then leaving it laying on top of the starter...feeding the ratchet up and pushing it into the extension, and getting like 1/2 turn before it would fall off or my arm started throbbing.

thanks again!

snidehockey:

You can use a ratcheting wrench, too, but you need a skinny one to get in there. Once you break the bolt loose (the other 3 bolts are out already) lift the pump with your free hand and you 'should' be able to get the bolt turned with your fingers. If the bolt has to carry the weight of the pump, you will end up having to use the wrench and turn it 1/8 or 1/4 of a turn at a time. For reassembly, the 4th bolt can be left out without any dire consequences. You can put in the 4th bolt and keep the weight off the bolt and tighten it up with your fingers (finishing with a wrench, of course).

HTH,

Chris
