i know it has to have been asked before, but im wondering if anyone has tried it?

i know back when i worked on the old 2.3L 4 cylender motors we would take a DOHC head from a volvo and through a little bit of "customizing" get it to work on the SOHC based 2.3L, im wondering if its possible to do the same to the 4.6

yes it is possible, but a lot of other things to replace and modify. I think you can do a complete 4v swap easier and cheaper, you will also have a better crank.

true, i was just wondering that if it were easy it may be a better idea than PIs, but i agree that it would be a lot of work for mininal gains

It wouldn't be minimal gains. A stock 96 GT puts about 190 rwhp down. A stock 96-98 Cobra puts about 260 rwhp down. Those are big gains, but why go to the effort of finding heads, finding an intake, finding a timing cover, changing the accesories over, yada yada yada... especially when you can buy a crate motor for 3k?

Not economical. As always, remember the search function is your friend. Also click here:

Yes, it's been covered before and it would be cheaper and easier to swap the whole Cobra engine.

Not to mention that swapping 4v heads onto 2v shortblock drops the compression almost a full point. Thats a serious drawback if you're trying to stay NA.

Woah! When did you get a '96 GT Teen93? I thought you got a 5.0??

But anyways, welcome to the club! Is your car a 5-speed? How many miles are on it? Bet you like that smooth modular power, huh? Talk about a gigantic leap from a 2.3!

Anyways, your best bet would be to just get some 2V heads from ford racing...that would put you at right around 280 crank hp I think. Unless you want to go all the way and just drop in a 4valve motor, but that can be pricey and time consuming. I plan on doing a 2v head swap on my GT pretty soon, then I can at least run with the 99+ GT's. Or you could also pick up a Supercharger for a pretty decnt price too.
