ive been reading up on heads and found out that mm&ff said that all mustang heads are interchangeable even the 4v on a 2v...is that right? i have a 03 gt and what kind of power improvement could i find from doin that swap
About the same power numbers as a stock 4V engine would make, the only real advantage to swapping the 4V heads to a 2V block is that the 2V’s iron block would provide a stronger base to work with than the pre-03 Aluminum block, which helps when you really start making power….but the swap isn’t cheap or particularly easy. Unless you’re hell bent of having a 4V under the hood, it would be cheaper and more practical to either do a complete engine swap, or just build the 2V with a power adder.
actually i was gonna go the power adder route anyway buti was just trying to see if i really could make crazy power on the gt...i have full exhaust now and while i know i should fix that suspension first i just want that power now so im just saving up for that kb#9 i should have it by the end of summer then again thats what i said this year then that street racing ticket i had to take to court came along and ran me broke......
it is very possible to bolt the 4v heads onto a 2v block, however you will be down on power because of a loss of compression due to the 4v heads larger combustion chamber. if you plan on going with boost this is a good thing, however your stock gt bottom end will be spitting out rods if you crank the boost up too high. if i were you i would recommend using a 96-98 cobra block (Teksid) build that with low compression/high boost in mind, forged rods, forged pistons, and a stock forged cobra crank. going with ARP main and head studs is another good idea. i recommend the Teksid because that is the strongest OEM 4.6 aluminum block that ford used. btw it wasnt made by ford it was made by the Italian company Teksid. if you dont mind using an iron block, then pretty much any romeo or windsor block should safely support 600hp with the aforementioned internals.
You can use the 4V heads but you pretty much have to replace everything from the block up and the computer. The 2V intake (upper and lower) will not work with those heads. I was looking at doing the same thing to my 04 but having to replace everything out weighed the benefits of actually doing the swap.
