Is it possible to swap the SOHC heads for the 4V DOHC heads onto a 97 GT? What does it take?

I heard it has been done but for what price you pay its better just putting the whole 4v in. Wish i could help out some more that is just what i heard.

I believe the only real issue is that one of the 4V timing cover holes doesn't line up on the 2V iron block.

Putting 4V heads on a 2V would cost about as much as a whole 4V crate engine swap. Plus, 4V heads on a 2V shortblock would give you a very low compression ratio, so it wouldn't even be that good. Also, you still wouldn't have the 4V engine's forged crank and better oil pump so you couldn't up your rev limiter without the possibility of breaking something.

Does the 01 4 valve have a forged crank as well?

All the 4V engines in Mustangs have forged cranks. I believe there is one exception, which are the Mach 1's with an automatic transmission.

yea i knew about the mach 1. I have a thread up that noone responded to discussing building up a 4valve for swapping...Just a little surprised i didn't get any responses.

At one point i considered a 5.4L but there are just too many issues with the swap that can cause problems.

4v head swap would require the heads, intake, cam covers, wireing harness, new headers/manifolds, TB, injectors, Etc.....Its not really worth the trouble of gathering all the parts.....just buy whole the 4v motor......
