5.0 Block Is A 5.0 Block right?

Ok this is to settle an argurment and I need some responces quick. I am currently the mediator in a couple of friends argument. One has a 88 mustang 5.0 and the other happens to have a 5.0 truck motor. The bottom end in the 88 stang is smashed. The argument is........ Willl the Truck 5.0 bottom end and possibly heads work with the H.O intake and will the motor bolt right in. I am pretty sure it will but I need a definet answer before these two start burning things...

Bolt rights in, the oil pan and a few other things are different on a truck motor though..cam, access. brackets, etc

It may or may not be a roller block in the truck.
 
What year truck motor?

5.0 blocks are similar, but not the same.

I think after 1988 or some year, all ford vehicles with the 5.0 engine got the same E7 block.

But before that, you had E3, E5, E6 blocks and they are all different
 
If you are talking an absolutely bare block, only differences are roller and non roller. Then older blocks are believed to be stronger than newer. Front cover could be different due to cam driven fuel pumps on carbed engines. Most will not think of that. But that is removable/changable.
 
You didn't say what year the truck motor was but older blocks(pre 1980) aren't machined for the dipstick to pass through the side.Also 302's made before 1981 are balanced different so you wouldn't be able to use the HO flywheel/flexplate.
 
I got a 1987 truck 5.0 in my Mustang which I'm converting into an HO. Now the pistons are cast (but still has 4 valve reliefs, has a flat tappet cam, and a crappy timing chain. The heads are the same as the HO but I think the rockers are different. Mine aren't roller anything and just cheap stamped steel, not stud mounted.

Whereas the later HO has a roller cam, TRW forged pistons, double roller timing chain. I think had roller tip rocker arms?

My block doesn't have a big "R" in the lifter valley (reads WCP something) but does have the threaded holes for the roller lifter installation kit. The timing cover is the same since this was an EFI engine. You could use the lower intake and create a custom "bread box" upper for more power.
