I was told that I could use my 289 timing chain cover and waterpump on the 5.0 and not have to worry about switching the radiator around. Is this true? Thanks for any and all info

First of all, the 5.0 cover (86-93) WILL take any style waterpump and WILL take the eccentric to drive the mechanical fuel pump, so you dont have to use the 289 cover. You can use the 289 cover, but then you cant use the serpentine setup. For more info, visit my Site

thats a pretty good site there, but i must point out that the 93 5.0 HO did not have forged pistons. other than that its good solid info.

when ford switched to the reverse rotation water pump they also changed the timing cover, and the early pumps will NOT interchange on the later covers. also the covers with the reverse rotation water pumps do not have the boss cast in for a mechanical fuel pump. best to swap to the early timing cover as it bolts inplace with no problem.
